‘Do anything to be happy’: Star Diamond’s raw admission about move that stunned netball world
Super Netball round-up: NZ teams hope to join, confusion over suspensions, and is the league as close as we think?

I hope NA does their due diligence if/before accepting NZ teams into the SSN. Any consolidation would need to address
the financial costs associated with extending to NZ
The lack of crowd/viewer interest in cross-Tasman clashes to justify external investment through sponsorship or broadcast rights
The small venue sizes in NZ (could they accommodate the 10,000+ crowds of the bigger SSN games)?
The lack of depth in the ANZ comp. The Mystics (and maybe the Pulse) are the only current ANZ premiership team who could compete on level terms with the SSN teams.I was all for the merge, until I listened to the netty life podcast. Australia will gain nothing from the crossover, while nz do.
Nz crowd sizes are tiny, there is no money to be made unfortunately. Even for rugby union, they can’t fill up a stadium. It would be a bad idea in my opinion. Unless the nz teams are a mix of Aussies, nz and internationals.Much of the conversation has been around thinking it would be the two countries coming together or a merger as you put it. But I think that’s wrong. This is how I see it… it would be NZ teams entering the Australian competition, like the Warriors in the NRL or the Breakers in the NBL. So, it wouldn’t be a new competition, it would be the Australian league (Suncorp Super Netball) with NZ teams in it. Then, there would still be a NZ competition like the ANZ Premiership, but it would be like a level below.
There are some tiny stadiums in Australia. SC Lightning still play at the University, Mavricks and before them the Magpies play/ played at the 11,000 seat Tennis court, but it was usually 90% empty.
NZ does have decent sized stadiums. The one in Christchurch holds about 7000 and more if needed.
Spark arena in Auckland holds similar if not more. They are more than adequate for Netball crowds.
A new pilot program, Super Netball Reserves, will be trialled during the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season.

Maddie Hinchliffe has been locked in as our eleventh player!
A full circle moment for Mads who made her SSN debut with Lightning in 2021 and has returned to the Coast after spending the 2023 season with the Collingwood Magpies.

Good news for Maddie, but I must admit some of the netball social media greatly frustrates me with its inaccuracy! Hinchliffe debuted for the Firebirds in 2019. The SSN website literally tells you. Just… look it up before posting.
There’s my mini rant over lol.
