Yes. I think it was two.
Once the injured contracted player is past fit then they come in for the TRP. It’s only if a player is upgraded to PRP that they stay in the 10. That’s one of the benefits of the rookie spot, they can be selected in the 10 without a contracted player needing to be sick or injured.
Interesting that Andrew played GA with Garbin at GS today. All the Vixens main players (ex Kumwenda obviously) played with Andrew and Coffey also getting good court time. Coffey played GD and WD. They play Mystics tomorrow so might see more TPs then.
When I used to coach Andrew she used to play Ga, it’s when she got taller she predominantly played GS. She definitely has the skills to play Ga.
Since Austin can have off games, they are probably looking for a GA option over a shooter? Be interesting to see if Garbin plays any ga this year.
Oh I agree Andrew can play GA. has done it in VNL many times. I just thought the more natural right now would have been Garbin at GA but I’m sure they’ve trained it and it could even be as simple as McKinnis not wanting to move Garbin from GS and mess with her confidence. They’ll want another GA option to not only cover Austin but also to allow Austin into WA to give them another midcourt change up. I think Andrew is a better GA than Kumwenda whose passing was always too inconsistent for me. Andrew is definitely ready for this chance imo and even over the preseason looks like she has gotten stronger again. I also really like Lily Graham though but she is obviously younger and a bit more raw at this point. Still they might go with Graham as the 11th / rookie as she is a strong GA option but after the court time Coffey got yesterday she might be in with a shot at that too. I’ve seen Coffey play WD twice at VNL level but didn’t really think Vixens would use her there. She was training at WD in Bendigo but I stupidly thought it was only as Eddy wasn’t there but obviously not. Anyway it does make Coffey a genuine 3 position defender.

As for Giants I really rate this lineup. I have them pushing top 4. Their super shot strength is unmatched.
O’Brien is a genuine talent, it may take a few rounds but I expect her to claim the GK bib. I wouldn’t be surprised if she is in the Diamonds squad in a few years. Whilst Ward is not the loudest player on court that may just be because she has historically played with the likes of Mentor and Sterling. Even so Winders at WD can step in and cover any defensive communication gap that Brandley may have left.
I’d love to see Sligar get more court time this year but I fear in this lineup she won’t.
Harten will start at GS. Yes it comes down to her fitness but it’s also down to what combination produces the most for the team. Dwyer’s level is much higher with Harten on court. Shame for Letherbarrow as I think she is ready to step up to more court time but until Harten retires she may need to be patient.
WA is the weakness for me. Hay was brilliant a couple of seasons back and whilst injury may have played a part it was always going to be hard for her to maintain that level. Pitman brings a formed combination with Harten but is she going to be a dominant game breaking WA in this league? Not sure. From within their 10 I’m not sure who they would move to WA if Pitman is shut down.

I thought Winders did well at WA for Steel. They were missing that dominant shooter for her to feed.
Obviously her natural position is WD, but I’d like to see how she would go feeding Harten/Dwyer. Harten would be the attacking leader, and would be able to help direct play for Winders.I’m also interested in knowing how much court time Gina Crampton as been given so far? Even though she’s not in the 10, having her and Pitman battling (well kind of, not really) that WA position would be healthy competition for the team.
So if Pitman gets dropped for Hays return. Can she be picked up by another team, if they had an injury in the WA position? Or would she have played too many games for Giants, to be able to play for someone else?
TPs can join other teams but Pitman is signed as a TRP for Hay so she can’t play for another club (it was only different during covid). Crampton could though but she would need to be signed as a PRP (that is until she plays a game for Giants). Crampton can only be selected for Giants in the event of injury and illness.
Both Andrew (q2) and Graham (Q3) getting a chance in GS with Austin at GA against Mystics. Yesterday they both played GA alongside Garbin.
Two from two ???? thank you to the @northernmystics for hosting us, and for a tough hitout in front of a great Auckland crowd today! Final score ???? 62 | 68 ????
