      Another poor pass from Austin.

      Switch Mundy and Walters please.

Instead Garbin comes in at GA.

Strange things going on here. Not strange that Austin is off, but strange to have Garbin and Graham this way round.

Thanks for the time out Swifts, it’s allowed Vixens to switch Mundy and Walters as needed.

        Austin back on at GS.

Simone, settle down, I’m not used to so many changes.

Holy crap this is close! Garbin is at GA so clearly Austin is coming on at GS. Both the young goalers were running around like crazy and not achieving very much.

The Swifts diamond defence (four of them box one half of the goal circle) is amazing, and yet the VIxens have the guts to give it to a player driving into that tiny gap, very very impressive – from both teams!

Wallace and Austin back on, both at GS – give the people what they want! 40-all, then SS from Garbin

            Full time: Swifts 45-44

The queens of passing it around, do just that and hold on for another thrilling one goal win! Another great game and so much to look forward to from both these teams this year. Every chance they’ll be back when finals come around.

So close but gosh I’m proud of the Vixens for how they came back from Friday night.

To play that hard without Weston on Housby and a full strength Swifts as well. Full credit to Eddy who should get much more time in the circle this year.

So much to look forward to with this lineup for Vixens. To replace Watson and Kumwenda and play without Weston.

              Looking forward to the season.

Not sure why commentators were saying Walters is a WD. No she isn’t. She was a GD and sometime WD when she first met Di Honey at Geelong Grammar. Was missing Vic teams and Honey turned her into a WA. Rest is history. Really only started playing a lot of C last year, she played it in VNL and for Fury. Mainly played WA and a bit of C in Vic teams.

Proud got MVP. I would have given it to Housby. They simply would not have won without her 6/8 super shots.

Think Swifts will settle on a backline of TOS, Klau and Turner. It’s their strongest.

Swifts were always my favourites for SSN but can’t help feel they should have been further ahead of the pack at this point given how stable their line up is.

Fraser was a big loss. They really lose that change up. Even if she didn’t always play huge minutes they were always vital.

My key takeaways from the weekend:

Swifts can never let Housby go, they’ll be lost without her

Vixens have invested well in their young midcourt. I was worried how Mundy and Walters would cope without a more experienced head around them, but they sure proved me wrong.

Firebirds should not let Veve off the court. She very calmly did her job at all times and worked extremely hard all game.

Lightning – haven’t gelled yet and I couldn’t quite put my finger on where it is falling away. Did like seeing Batcheldor back on court.

Fever actually looked better today in the first quarter when Wilkinson was on for Fowler. Wilkinson did quite reasonable over the course of the weekend I thought.

Giants – pleased to see Dwyer take more of a leadership role in the circle. And I take my hat off to Ward- just phenomenal, especially today.

Thunderbirds have done well to fill the Cardwell gap. Sterling and Wilson worked well together as always.

Mavericks defensive end is a miss for me (even before Moore went down). I don’t know if it’s because I’m biased (I have never been impressed by Jenner), but it just wasn’t intimidating for the opposition.

I know others will disagree, but that was what I was thinking from the sidelines.

What kind of shape is Rore in? Mavericks could do with another defender (although I did enjoy her commentary).

More seriously though, I haven’t kept up to date with the TP rules. Could Mavericks sign someone like Temu who is a Swifts TP for the season with the presumed serious injury to Moore?

(I also hope that Moore’s injury wasn’t as bad as it appeared.)

Thanks for all the comments on this thread too, I haven’t been able to watch as much as I would like, but it has been good to read your opinions.

Re training partners, I did catch in the game Crampton played, Gaudion and Cox said if there was an injury in another team Gina could be picked up. However I imagine unlike the COVID-affected seasons you couldn’t play for multiple teams – i.e if Crampton were to receive an SOS she then couldn’t turn out for the Giants later in the season.

Yeah that’s right but yes again Mavs could sign Temu as a TRP or PRP depending on the severity of Moore’s injury.

Personally I think they’d be better off looking at Ruth Aryang who was very impressive.

Mavs have Grenvold as a TP, I know she didn’t get much court time but can understand they were wanting to form connections between Moore, Lewis and Jenner.

Has anyone ever seen Jok play at GK?

It would be interesting to see if Crampton or Temu would take up a contract outside of Sydney. Considering they moved there to be with their partners.
I low key hope they do, if the opportunity arises. Will be great for the Ferns to have 3 NZ players playing week-in-week-out against the best.

Personally I was really impressed with all the teams. Obviously a lot of different combinations were used, but the intensity was there for majority (if not all) of games. Looking forward to the season ahead.
