Surely NNZ have to start reassessing

I can’t fathom why they’ve not allowed an exemption for nweke

It is clear that she is their future and they are still working on her combinations in the attack line

Nweke will get good experience in aus but the connection with a NZ WA and GA is missing (made significantly worse by toeava, I get that you have fitness standards but surely for a test series you can be a bit more lax and see how it goes)

I think Nweke will get exposed in the SSN.
Her footwork, soft hands, inability to shoot from further than one step away from the post, and easy misses.

Would like to see England experiment with their line up in game 3. See what Alice Harvey can do vs Nweke.

@benmac4 – Nweke didn’t apply for an exemption as she didn’t meet any criteria. She did keep NNZ informed so they could have suggested that she did apply, but no they didn’t. I think she made the right call, she needs to get the tougher mileage in if she wants to be one of the best.

Is Raz Quashie still in Nz?

What a disastrous game for the ferns. The midcourt is so weak. When Cobden came on, Souness became ineffective. Didn’t help that Poi was running round in circles like the golden snitch – needed Harry Potter in that team to pass the ball in to her! I agree that Gordon needed to stay on the entire time. Mason played well but she got tired, i would have put Burger in to GD and put Heffernan back in WD for the 4th Q, not in C!! Bring back COB for WA and take out Poi. I would also have liked to see Walmsley in at either GS/GA partnered with Eke.

Housby showing why she is a classy athlete. Her coming in for the 2nd Q and Cobden coming in at WD changed the momentum for the Roses. Tchine so solid and Pearson having a tremendous series. UK have better depth than the ferns sadly.

Quashie was on the England team sheet tonight, so understand she is here.

Walmsley is such a talented young player, and deserves to show what she can do in game 3, when none of the other SF goalers have dominated yet. I hadn’t thought of her as a GA option, but suspect she’d be as good as Maia, at least!

At least the losses have been fairly close, esp in game 1 – I’m sure the Ferns can lift.

I’m surprised to suggest this, but benching Grace for Amelia might open up space better for the Ferns on attack.

Add in a WA who can break through a zone (COB) and there’s your deficit wiped.

Ferns hmm, I need to watch the game again. IMO,
                      – Nweke and Eke were OK. I didn’t see any more turnovers than the Roses
                      – defence, I thought you were ok there too
                      – that leaves the middies, Poi, Gordon and Souness. I thought they played well just not at the same time or together. DNT always talks about combinations, I didn’t see that with the middies.
                      – JT said the Roses were looking to win in a different way, well we did.

Game 3 will be even more interesting now. Gordon at WA with Souness at C ??

Yes disappointing result for the Ferns, but I think England were just a stronger and more connected side. They earnt both the wins. Fran and Housby are the only two players who play SSN. Fadoju had Ekenasio contained in both games. Tchine is a great target, and as @Ian mentioned, formed better with Housby than Cardwell. That’s some great shooting depth for England.

Unfortunately I don’t think NNZ or DNT will see these losses as a big deal. I feel they’ll have an abundance of excuses up their sleeves. DNT really needs to go. She stubbornly continues to not select Toeava, and wants to continue playing around with the WA position. That position has affected their attacking play for a couple of years now 🤷‍♂️

By the end of 2024, England would have had test series against Aus, NZ and I believe Jamaica (later this year?).

Agree Souness at C is worth a look, with Gordon or COB at WA.

Gordon to WD would be another option, for added penetration on attack, if Heffernan is quiet. The centre third was SO stuck for the Ferns in game 2.

Would love to see GHeff or Tiana in there for Maia, and Toeva for Souness or Poi, and while I’m at it Takarangi in for Mason. But since we don’t, for game 3 I’d like so see a starting 7 of:

                          Walmsley (Nweke for impact)
                          Eke
                          Cob (maybe swap Souness)
                          Souness (maybe swap Gordon)
                          Heffernan (Gordon for impact)
                          Burger (Mason as impact)
                          Jury (Mikaere as impact)

Time to throw the dice. I don’t mind them taking a chance and losing, but repeating the same mistakes and losing would be a wasted opportunity to test players at top level.

England have been so impressive this series. I totally underrated their prospects and probably overestimated the Ferns. I just love watching Housby, she is pure class.

It is hard to say the silver ferns aren’t like Langman, Folau or Kopua – they were once in a generation players who somehow came at the same time. The thing that does seem to be the case is the silver ferns defence isn’t scary like it used to be. Sterling, Wilson, Bruce, etc have the fear factor, their reputation precedes them. I don’t think the ferns have anyone in their lineup like that.

Agree a GA change up is needed for the SF and might help gel better with Nweke. While I am not anti-Toeva and I think her inclusion may be worth trying judging by the forum comments (I didn’t get to watch the ANZP this year), I don’t think her inclusion is a panacea.

The ferns need a WA that can cut through a zone. Souness tries to run around a zone which works in ANZ but not international netball.

@thunder123 I agree, Harvey HAS to get a run in test three – otherwise what was the point of flying her around the world (at EN members’ expense!)?

Right!!. Why was Claire O’B left out of the 12 last night, yes she might have thrown a couple poor passes in game one, but she was clearly the best Wing A, Souness has had plenty of chances in that position, and yet still runs around providing nothing.
Poi well I am and still will be a fan, but I feel she is handcuffed under Noel’s .coaching, doubt she will make the CC team.
Mason terribly outclassed by Housby, and didn’t provide much in the mid court.
Jackson had her moments but Liv T (who I think will be a superstar) outplayed her/
Ekenasio looks hampered either with being captain of a losing team, or injured, or something else.
Heffernan better than game 1 but still out of sorts.
Nweke come on please shot from more than 12cm from the post, and then don’t miss them. Liv T is miles ahead in shooting and movement.
Maddy G the one shining light, Ferns ahead by 4 and getting to grips with the mid court combos, and FFFS she gets subbed off. Clueless coaching.
Coaching staff, well if Ferns lose this 3-0 and the CC 4-0 They better all get the don’t come Monday call.

Oh and will Karaka be available for the CC or is the illness going to be 9 months.
