That placing Nweke has got at Swifts has clearly been arranged by Taurua and Akle. Probably with NNZ’s knowledge. Who cares what results the Ferns have in 2025. It’s the 2026 results that matter for Taurua holding down her coaching gig. It’s in Nz’s interest that Nweke strengthen her game against Sterling etc. and the only way she was going to get that done was by playing in the SSN. it’s going to be a non issue in 2026 as there will be nz teams playing in the ssn. I can’t see how there wouldn’t be. That’s the only way the SSN can grow its viewership.
Probably there’s issues from Sky and sponsorship levels which are stopping NNZ making exemptions for top line players to play in the ssn.

I’m sure Sky and sponsorship have the most to do with exemptions being made so difficult/non existant. However the deal for next season is already done so unless the sponsors said ‘we want so and so in the ANZ’ NNZ could have said apply please.
I don’t watch ANZ just to watch the top players, I watch the teams as a whole and their growth (or not) from game to game.Sure I understand the rationale behind NNZ not granting to exemptions as it could ultimately gut the ANZP if all of the best players are playing elsewhere. But what are they doing to make the ANZP better?
1) There was a review of NZ netball systems in general after Southby’s CWG disaster – but this wasn’t released after Noels won gold. Why wasn’t this released?
2) Why is it so hard to ANZP franchises to apply for imports? Each team should be allowed at least one import unconditionally
3) Would they consider altering the player payments so that they receive more money from the ANZP and less from Silver Ferns retainers? This would attract better imports as the current payments are only attractive to potential Silver Ferns
4) Excellent they are moving to two rounds. Would they consider moving the ANZP season to allow more players to compete in the SSN, even as replacement players/training partners?
5) Yes there has been an improvement in ANZP viewer numbers and crowds – this is good. However, I’m not surprised Sky is favouring basketball as there is opportunity to sell the rights overseas due to the international market for basketball already. Both NNZ and NA face this same conundrum, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the next SSN broadcast deal be less favourable. Something for both countries to ponder.- This reply was modified 3 months, 2 weeks ago by museboy.
Steel have snapped up quite the defender for next season.
There are no current Silver Ferns with 100 Test caps – so would any player get an exemption to play in SSN?

NZ defender. Which would leave them with an import slot to use. Shaping up to be quite a young, dynamic, talented team for 2025.
Magic have signed Saviour Tūī for a second season.
Alex13 – Karin Burger?
Re imports: it’ll be good if the coaches actually bloody used them 🤦♂️😂
Karin Burger would be a good pickup for any team, but the Steel need height at the back.
Kate Burley has re-signed with Stars. Thats another team that needs some height in the circle.
Not Burger. I’d consider her NZ’s best defensive prospect for the future. Will add a lot of height.
