Watching the TVNZ coverage and its taken until 5 minutes into the second quarter for Jenny May Clarkson to correct herself after insisting on called Saviour Tui, “Tui Saviour”..

Pulse are up 19-10. Blew the Magic away in the first 15. No successful super shots yet.

1/2 Time: PUL 28-19

The opening ANZ Premiership match of 2025! Pulse got out of the blocks quickly and dominated Magic 15-6 in the first Q, while the 2nd Q was drawn. Gabi Simpson is having a strong game at C for Pulse, while Parris Mason already has 5 gains.

Unsurprisingly, Ameliaranne Ekenasio is the first player in the ANZ Premiership to sink a 2-point shot. She has 2 so far.

Magic has been very heavily penalised so far… 45-16 against them.

it appears to be a full time job for Phoenix correcting the daft comments and observations made by Coffin-May Jenny (how she will now be referred to in my house) who I’m not sure has watched a game of netball since she stopped playing – really hoping it’s one and done for her in commentary

Full Time: PUL 57-44

Pulse takes victory in comfortable style, getting out to a lead of 20 goals early in the last Q. Parris Mason and Kelly Jackson had 7 gains each while Gabi Simpson had a terrific ANZ Premiership debut. Magic’s poor first Q hurt them.

It’s no big surprise that Ameliaranne Ekenasio will be a great exponent of the 2 point shot this year. She nailed 5/7 today, while Amorangi Malesala shot 4/6 for Pulse.

Pulse has shown today that they’ll be mighty hard to beat this year.

I was not expecting that result based on Pulse pre-season results I saw. Only saw one game in person though and the team was missing Jackson, Metuarau, Ioane and Gordon after she hurt herself.

Pretty disappointed with the commentary.
On the Inside Netball podcast I thought they were incredibly insensitive re Georgia Tongs name change
