3/4 time: LIG 45-36
A scrappy mistake-riddled 3rd Q sees Lightning extend their lead. Cara Koenen has been good without dominating in game 100. Firebirds having a real struggle in their shooting circle.
Ervin watch: She’s up to 9 gains and 9 deflections
Either Moore and Dwan need to go next season. They’re too similar so there’s no point of difference if they’re replacing each other on court or bringing Cholhok off. A player like Palavi would be a good addition, then you have height, speed and smarts across the three shooters
Tara Hinchliffe has been an unsung hero in this game- always available for rebounds and sneaky deflections and pickups, and just relentless pressure on Moore and Dwan who have had to continually swap. Obviously she hasn’t played the entire game, but she’s been better than Bruce except for maybe shot defence.
So much discussion around koenan even tho im devo for the firebirds was honestly happy seeing her hit those super shots
Full time: LIG 64-50
A commanding win for Lightning, winning all four quarters and taking their head-to-head record against Firebirds to 13-4. The POTM could be nobody else but Ash Ervin who finished with 12 gains, 4 intercepts, 6 rebounds, 10 deflections.
Congratulations to Cara Koenen and Mahalia Cassidy on bringing up 100 games. Great scenes near the end of the game as Koenen celebrated the milestone in style by landing 2 super shots.
In her court time so far this season, Ash Ervin is coming up with a possession gain every 5 1/2 minutes.
Lightning, particularly Ash Ervin, played a blinder, but it beggars belief that Firebirds couldn’t (wouldn’t?) get the ball to Mary as they have done so far this season.
And I am still puzzled as to why Tippah Dwan so often refuses to shoot.

So happy to see a Kelpie in commentary instead of just some random guy!
1/4 time: VIX 15-14
It’s a close one in Melbourne. The game started off in a scrappy fashion, but settled into a rhythm. Fowler-Nembhard with 12/13 although her opponent Rudi Ellis has had a strong start. Kiera Austin is playing strongly for Vixens.
This second quarter has been one-way traffic. Vixens with so many errors and Fever are dominating. We’ve seen three timeouts in this Q so far. Lily Graham has come on for Sophie Garbin. FEV 30-21
1/2 time: FEV 35-29
Fever threatened to run away with things, but Lily Graham helped turn things around with 3 super shots. Vixens have scored 4 super shots so far while Fever hasn’t attempted one. With Fowler-Nembhard back, it’s business as usual for Fever.
Jordan Cransberg is having a ripper game at centre for Fever with 9 assists and an incredible five pickups in the first half.
Glad vixens are making the changes earlier
In the past I’ve felt they’ve waited too long to inject lily graham
Quite a few young Aussie players are outperforming their diamonds teammates
Ervin beating Bruce for GK Caris beating Ellis graham beating Garbin
I’ve said this a few times but a Diamonds development squad should be named
