I get the sense Garbin is pretty happy and settled in Melbourne.
Palavi seems the obvious choice if they canโt get someone from overseas. Will be so interesting to see how they go without JFN!
The players off contract are SDL, Lenezie potgieter, Venter, peace and kumwenda.
Venter is strong on the long range, but potgieter has world class experience! Would be interesting.
Peace and kumwenda have little ones now so not sure if it will be a stretch for them to move?Other options maskeko and ngubane?
Venter might be a good option. Sheโs been around SSN before and was playing in the England league until this year. Plus has international experience. Probably a bit more range than Potgeiter who is playing in the SA Premier League and is generally just a post-up shooter.
I guess depends if they want a longer term option or not for life after JFN, then they might invest in Palavi

It never ceases to amaze me that Jo Harten is still a member of the squad given, even at this time of the year, she is on load management. Price, I understand as she had a big year.
100% correct, this is 1 team that really needs to move on

Two games against the Mavericks, plenty of opportunities given and plenty of potential shown.

Kumwenda to Fever!
This is a smart move. She brings a lot of experience and I think will be popular with fans.
Not sure if itโs enough to keep them in the top 4 but I think itโs better than a rookie who wonโt be able to offer as much experience when the chips are down.
Wise move from Kumwenda, she was never going to get time from Garbin.
Not sure how this works with maternity leave from Vixens? Could Vixens have stopped this if they wanted to? Iโm not saying they would have, it would have been a really bad look if they even entertained the thought.
Wise but surprising move, considering all the years and support networks Kumwenda has in Melbourne.
I am sure they could have stopped her but I was getting the vibe that she agreed (was swayed) not to be part of the 12 next year, rather than asking for an extension, so this is probably a good outcome for all parties as it no doubt relieves some of the financial burden that Vixens carry and she can continue to play in SSN.
Kumwenda was not contracted to the Vixens. Kumwenda had a one year contract for 2024 which ended and was not recontracted for season 2025. NV offered her a job which she took up and were supporting her to return to the court but not the Vixens. Kumwenda had signed to play VNL and for Kangaroo Flat regionally (with Barkmeyer).
Will be interesting to see how she goes in her return.
