I read the article earlier. Perhaps her heart genuinely wasn’t in it prior this season.
She may not make the Comm games but it would be great to see her in the development squad again. I like the idea she is willing to learn GA.
@Baller – Maturity and sorting life can be a wonderful thing. If she can make the fitness standards she would be in consideration for sure. I recall that 2-3 seasons ago she played GA for Pulse quite a bit at ANZ and I am sure that it also helps fitness levels – it certainly assisted Jury when she played GD.
Love Aliyah. One of my favourite nz players. She seems to have improved her game especially baseline movement. Her shot was always consistent. The basketball skills help as well. If she doesn’t make the Ferns she should try and get a SSN spot. I reckon she could handle it over there.
Shes certainly performing amazing in ANZ, she was very young when she did her 4? caps and wasnt under the right coaching either. I think if she can get her fitness up which is what she struggled with under Dame Noeline then she could have another chance?
I’d take Dunn over Nweke, much more versatile and much more consistent and better shot.
Why go to SSN? To get smashed around more and dumb her game down?
I’d take her over nweke as well. At least Dunn moves and shoots from distance, look at fast 5 in 2018, she was the best ferns shooter of 3 pointers.
Agreed that she’d do better over Nweke. Longer shots and way more experience.
Oh and apologies for the terribly spelt heading on this thread – I can’t edit!
Versatility is going to be key these Comm games selections. I know Wilson and Dunn spend the majority of their time at GS but could be pushed to play GA if times were desperate.
Could go full versatile and have Wilson, dunn, ekenasio and mes. If theyre all avaailable and pass fitness. Id be happy with those 4.
Whilst I agree that skill set wise Wilson and Dunn are miles ahead of Nweke, Nweke pretty much dominates the NZ defences so I can’t see her being left behind.
It probably causes more headaches for the selectors if Dunn passes the fitness testing.
How would nweke go against sterling, who loves the statue GS
I hope they take Wilson and Dunn, give Nweke a few more years to develop. She’s only 19 so can still be apart of the next two comm games and world cup cycles.
I would take her over Wilson, not Nweke. Nweke is our most dominant shooter in the league, why would you want to leave her out?
A fit Ekenasio would combine well with either player. In saying that, she has combined well with Wilson too.
Bailey Mes would combine well with any of these shooters too.Being dominant in a league doesnt always equate to being dominant internationally against different styles of players and abilities.
Hypothetically if Nweke did play in SSN week in week out against those defenders she would not dominate. Weve seen her get dominated by the english defenders and that wasnt even against someone like EUB who is by far the roughest defender out there and Nweke does get put off with the tougher defence and being a holding shooter it is expected to get smashed around.
Need more dimensions to her game and yes shes young, let her grow a bit more but sadly i see her game not doing that cause clearly in ANZ against thiese defenders she doesnt need to so she probably wont. Maybe give jury, burleys elevation and then shed be needing to.Thats my personal opinion, id leave her out of my squad and see if she can get more mature with her game and adapt, work on her shot mechanics and start to put up some mid rangers then id give her a run.
