But the Pulse have brought in Kersten…
but that is as a direct replacement for Gordon, they used someone from the NNL team for Tiana being out, even though they could’ve brought someone in who would’ve been a better player.
Stars have Samason, Lisa Mather, and Emma Thompson sitting on the bench behind training partners and Falkner, what happens when Malesala is back? they bought in Crampton as an injury replacement for Thompson, so should’ve been on the bench when thompson is now…if there’s such a big issue with selected players not being good enough then they need to look at why that is happening, is the signing period to short? should they run with squads for longer before having to name players? would it be smarter to leave the signing period open till after SSN has named their teams to allow for some that have missed the cut over there to be looked at here?
I think teams are doing what they can to win. For the Stars, Samason has performed poorly when on court so I understand why they brought in Falkner (who is playing so well considering she only gave birth recently), and Summer Temu also came in from the NNL squad (and did well!) Mather did have the starting bib once Crampton left but seems to have been overtaken by her own sister (also from NNL).
I thought the Pulse would have swung Ioane to C and put Iongi to WD, or perhaps bought in Petera to WA/C (who seems to be highly rated).
I agree, I’m just meaning there must be something wrong in how teams are selected or the structure of them, for it to keep happening, does it need to go back to the ‘old days’ when there were trials for teams, to make sure it was a cohesive team, that all positions were covered (aka Magic a few years back when 7/10 had WD as a playing position) there’s just something wrong in how it seems to be done now – even seems to be effecting some SSN teams – Lightning on paper should be the top team, but they’re struggling week in week out.
no idea what the solution is but it seems to be effecting NZ netball
It’s not different to the Mavricks in the SSN, we keep hearing how much depth there is in Australia Netball, they could field more SSN teams, etc, etc. Then next minute they sign 40 year old Nat Buther (Medhurst) as a replacement player for a couple weeks or more.
Seriously don’t they have a crop of talent in Victoria,Walmsley out for up to eight weeks with ligament damage in her knee. Wonder who they opt to bring in now – Martina Salmon looks good but unsure if Williams could run a game at GA alongside. Not a whole lot of others to call on…..Mes? Hopefully they look to NNL.
Crazy how the shooters injury curse has hit just about every team: Fisher, Dunn, Metuarau, Walmsley, Nweke, Malesala.
With Bird a good replacement, things could not be falling better for the Tactix to finally push for a maiden title.
Was just thinking about any retired players to fill the shooting void. If they had Tiana, I’d be happy with Williams and even Salmon. Not sure they will be competitive without Tiana though. And also Maddy in midcourt.
I did notice quite a heavy brace on her knee in some photos yesterday…is Salmon eligible seeing as she’s taken to the court several times for Steel? if not and Streuker isn’t actually injured for Mavs would she be a possibility – it’s clear they aren’t interested in playing her… Charlie Bell? they really need a GA/GS to cover atleast until Tiana is back and fully fit, a genuine case for needing to look elsewhere for cover
Not sure Williams is up to playing a full game but she is a reliable steadying influence on court.
Eseta Autagavaia might be an option. Not the height but has played in recent times -thats if there is no one in NNL to move up or pull from another region.
Dunn can’t be to far from returning for Tactix, but geeez all the shooters with injuries, old girl Ekenasio might be the only one standing soon
BREAKINGNEWS: The injury ward grows for @PulseNetball with Amelia Walmsley out with a knee injury.
She joins Maddy Gordon and Tiana Metuarau who are both also on the sidelines currently.
All the best Amelia for your recovery! #ANZP24 pic.twitter.com/5YrFPx5v9i
