Not quite Otaki but I went and watched the Steel vs Swifts today as there was nothing else to do.
Disappointing to say the least. Steel smashed the Swifts by 30 but the game was pretty much over not long after the first quarter. Steel looked pretty good in patches. Swift defenders couldn’t do anything about Fisher and all the Steel players got a run and a couple of local NNL players got on the Swifts bench as well.Fisher went down with a injury when the Steel were up by 30 and she already had both knees strapped up. I think she is done for the season but I hope I’m wrong.

Hope I'm wrong, but England shooter Georgia Fisher looks to have done a major knee injury in Southern Steel's pre-season game against a Covid-depleted NSW Swifts side in NZ this afternoon. The awkward clash, the fall, the screamed expletive, the tears. 😖

How did Winders go at WA?
@thunder123 She did ok but it was hard to judge as the opposition wasn’t that good. She was feisty as usual and giving as good as she good with the Swifts players.
It’s a shame she has moved teams and they just lose their top shooter. It will now be a difficult season for the Steel.
While very unfortunate for Fisher if it’s worst case scenario it presents a big opportunity for Saviour Tui to get some solid court time and develop a combination with Heffernan. She’s too good to be sitting on the bench IMO.
I might be coming from crazy land, but I can’t help but think that (if Fisher’s injury is serious) Steel should seriously be in contact with Nat Medhurst. They will desperately need attacking leadership and flair down that end (as Winders and K Heffernan are natural defenders, rather than attackers) and I can’t think who is fit and at that standard.
Preseason game results:
Game 1 – Steel 74 : 42 Swifts
Game 2 – Pulse 54 : 49 SwiftsBugger @Nesian!
Re Nachos, would think Firebirds might have contacted Medhurst re Bueta being pregnant?
Do they cast the net really wide and say CBass do you want one last ride in NZ?
Or perhaps even Romelda – know she’s a TP for the Swifts – but if she’s serious about game time and trying to get back in the Jamaican team for NWC. Didn’t the Steep bring Fowler’s mother over for a season or two to help with childcare? They are the one team who would be able to do that.
As long as it’s not Wilkins or Van Dyk donning a bib..
What about Martina Reekers who was with the Magic last year? She’s back with the Lightning as a TP now.
I believe she wasn’t happy with her time at the Magic, so not sure she’d go back to NZ.
Or whatever happened to Khiarna Williams?@thunder123 I read Williams is injured again which is why the Pulse picked up former Steel player and training partner Kiana Pelasio.
Back to the future, if none of the big names are available could Kalifa McCollin be an option? (ex Steel, Magpies, Celtic Dragons). Recall seeing on here she’s had a falling out with T&T Netball and is on the outer from the Calypso Girls. Don’t think she is back playing NSL either.
Gee wouldn’t Grace Namana be a handy pick-up right about now! The one that got away.
Ellie Bird would have been the ideal pick up. The opportunity to play with a young up-n-comer GA, a Silverfern C, and Sam Winders. That would have been a good lineup.
