Matilda Garrett named in the squad for the first time. No ATN or Glasgow. Really disappointed Glasgow isn’t there and worried for what that means.

So so excited for Matilda Garrett!!
I am interested to see if with only 19 named they will add another 2. Here’s hoping Glasgow still has a chance…
Me too about Glasgow. Garrett has absolutely stood up and I’m so glad she kept at it after some unlucky years at Collingwood. Really great for her!
Yay, go Matilda! That’s super exciting and very deserved. She’s so integral to the Tbirds backline and the unsung hero next to Stirling and Wilson. Does anyone know many years has it been since a Thunderbird was in the Diamonds squad? How far back would we need to go, Erin Bell? Or is there someone in between that I’m missing?
This is about what I expected for the wider squad. ATN has only been consistently playing at WA this year, I think she needs more time to build her capability there before she would make the Diamonds (and she clearly wasn’t going to as a GA). Glasgow, well, she may have a right to be annoyed (or maybe the England concept already has legs).
I take back my comment, the story posted by the Diamonds makes me think they won’t make anymore selections for the squad before the WC.
If Glasgow is selected for the Roses I will fully blame SM because there is room for her.

The Origin Australian Diamonds squad for 2023-24 has been revealed, and there’s a new inclusion.

Rapt for Garrett. It’s been awesome to watch her evolution as a player since going to TBirds. Thoroughly deserved.
I’m not surprised ATN isn’t there. Would be a very big call to take a one position player in your midcourt to a World Cup. Need depth and versatility.
Glasgow should be there imo. Maybe she didn’t make herself available and has chosen England?
Garbin but no Glasgow? You’ve gotta be kidding! :negative:
Glasgow should be in the squad, not saying she should be going to NWC but surely in the squad. Sadly, “those” rumours must be true.
I’d certainly pick England if I was her. She’d get way more court time now that Harten has retired, than she would with the Diamonds where she’d sit behind Wood, Bueta and Austin, and probably behind Dwyer who is being developed to take Wood’s spot.

Lots of comments on social media annoyed at Browne and Rav not making the squad. Not sure if people just haven’t been watching netball beyond their own teams the last few years (probably), because there’s no way I’d select either of those two above anyone in the midcourt squad.
I’m so excited for Garrett! I think she’s got a good chance for selection if you consider it’s usually only Bruce, Klau and Weston that take the court – why not try out a new fourth defender?
Plus she’s already played amazingly against Wood and Austin so you know she can keep up with the best
Okay so I just read the above article about Glasgow nominating herself for Diamonds but also England.
I wonder if that played a part, in that it doesn’t really show a lot of passion , commitment and desire for the Diamonds dress. Rather a desire to play international netball for whoever selects her.
Just a thought.
As an example, Parmenter is eligible for England but confirmed her allegiance to Diamonds as that was her dream and goal.
I don’t reckon putting her hand up for both teams should really be a decisive factor in Glasgow’s selection to be honest.
