Bailey Mes will play her last game of professional netball this Sunday as per the Silver Ferns Instagram.

This definitely through a spanner in the works in terms of World Cup selections!

I was sad to read that earlier, she is playing the best I think she has ever played, but at the same time I don’t blame her at all, only so much the body and mind can take. Even in the game a couple of rounds ago when she was a little flat (but still played well) the critics came back out in force – and who really needs or wants that in their life (one dropped ball for the SF’s and it would probably be a case of ‘off with her head’ )

she’s been a shining example of resilience, and rising above all the (constant) negativity!!

You can step away from the court this weekend with pride Mes. Quality (no pressure) final ANZp season.

Well done for knowing the right time to step away and allowing for the growth of younger SF talent. Technically 1 round and 2 finals matches for shooters to shine.

I’m really going to miss seeing her on court. I have nothing but admiration for her. Kia Kaha Bailey, ka tino whakanui ahau ki a koe.

What a terrific player and person (from what I hear). Wish her all the best in her retirement. Her 2015 WC campaign was a highlight for me – she tore Geitz up with her athleticism.

I’m sorry Mes has had to bear the brunt of social media bullying, she’s copped it all and stood tall with her game.

Stoked Mes came back post Commonwealth Games and showed her best form since probably 2015, and is going out on her own terms.

IMO this opens the door for Metuarau. If she has a cracking final series she could edge TPSR for that final shooting spot.

Heck of a shock, had a inkling it was on the cards but thought after WC. Anyway she’s done us as a family, damn proud, even thru the hair raising, swearing at the TV times. Bayes has done it her way now, good on her.
For those that have supported her through the highs and lows on this site and maybe other sites, as well as supporting me (sometimes that been on you lol). I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ll leave you wonderful ppls to it now. Thankyou Ian for such a great site, take care all. Mon 😊

I’m so happy for her, to be able to go out on her own terms! But I’m also gutted too (purely for selfish reasons) cause I had her in my Ferns team.

When I think of the word resilience, I will always think of Bailey Mes. I don’t think we’ll see another player quite like her in NZ!

My favourite shooter to watch – her jump, anticipation, rebounding and, now, accuracy – you never see that in players these days.

What a rollercoaster career after debuting as a WA to spearheading the Ferns shooting end in 2015. Probably the only shooter at the time who could outplay Geitz. Coming back time and time again shows how much strength of character she has.

                          All the best Bailey!

Wow, didn’t see this coming  have to admit I’ve been one of her harshest critics and she proved me wrong on a number of occasions. :rose:

I agree with all of the comments, especially the ones about resilience. She has an inner strength with has shined on and off the court, thank you Bailey 😥 you will be missed

When Laura Geitz was asked the hardest shooter she had to play against, she said Bailey Mes. It’s just a shame her shot was so shaky back then. And then there were all the injuries! That’s why this is a bit strange. She seems to be finally fit and in terrific form.

I can’t copy and paste in here, but Ian look up the TV 1 News for NZ, it says why Bailey’s retiring.
Yup Wewood, we’ll all be watching, no doubt get emotional but hey at least she’s leaving on a great season and on her terms 🙂
