As it turns out, 10 of the 12 players that were named in the Australian team for the Quad Series final, have made it to the Comm Games. The only two to miss out are Garbin whose spot goes to Austin returning from injury, and Price who has been overtaken by Moloney.

I don’t mind this team at all (though it looks like a lot of people on FB are disappointed – I probably shouldn’t be surprised as you’d never please that lot).

I would have gone Proud over Moloney and Dwyer over Wood, but I understand why they didn’t as neither are tested internationally and Wood was amazing in the last series. I hope Wood’s knee is alright in time for the games.

Still frustrated with the Price over Proud selection. I hope Proud gets selected for con cup and any other tests this year, because her form is deserving, and Australia needs the C/WA cover.

I do think the selections for the squad itself are good – Moloney has done really well this season, and I think the shooters are a much better balance of GS/GA if the game plan is to put Bueta at GS. Wood was too good at Quad series to overlook her, so hopefully she can get a break now that Lightning’s season is over to get her knee right.
Aryang does offer a good change up in style compared to Weston, Klau or Bruce at GD, and I’m happy Australia is in a situation where we have three really strong players (Bakewell-Doran, Aryang, Turner). Much better defensive depth since con cup selection last year!

Interesting to see that the Covid and injury replacement protocols still haven’t been finalised or at least shared to coaching staff. If Wood is suffering at the training camps can they replace her then? Surely yes? What about once the tournament starts? It wouldn’t be Covid related but would have impact on the team if Covid then hit?

Usually at major events, its the 12 named and those 12 only once the tournament starts, i remember Liana Leota playing GA with Jodi Brown GS for SF when they had injuries in the goal circle.
