Ian, I very, very rarely post, much more of a lurker and quiet participant in Fantasy Netball as you know. But I absolutely loved your article. I couldn’t stop reading it during my lunch break at work today and took a bit longer for lunch!
You put so much into this, there was heaps that I didn’t know, like how NZ originally played the game with 9 players rather than the 7 we’re so used to. I didn’t know about that controversial breaking call on Sharelle in the CG Gold Medal match- to the point where I went and rewatched the extra time from that game- something I haven’t done since 2010.
I’m in my mid 30s, so didn’t know much about the early days. My Mum used to play club netball and I did for about 15 years myself. Haven’t played since about 2011, but still an avid fan. My favourite era is the 90s and early 2000s, but it was really interesting reading about the early days and decades since. I enjoy stats, so I liked reading the team lists for the major tournaments and scores from test matches and other big games.
Thank you for your effort with this.
