If Crampton were to retire, I’d actually back in Hume to make the transition to WA for the Stars. She has good vision and movement, without the pressure of the final shot.
So, apparently, Crampton is retiring to spend more time with her partner. It’s a bit of a shame because she’s still at the top of her game. Temu, on the other hand, is heading to Australia to be with their partner. Luckily, their partner earns enough to take care of both of them easily. That will end her SF ambitions as she won’t be given a dispensation to play in the SSN should any team want her, I know this because a current SF was looking at playing across the ditch next season and would have been snapped up, but a dispensation was turned down by NNZ. There is one current SF who despite not being given a dispensation is still looking at offers and will leave to play in the SSN without NNZ approval. Watson as far as I know is still deciding whether to play or not but if she does she just wants to play games and not train. She was possibly looking at moving away for study and just retiring. Ekenasio will be at the Magic next season. It makes no sense for the Pulse to offer her a contract while they have Tiana and Amelia. Ekenasio might only have a year or two more whereas those two could potenially play the next 7-8 years together.
Oohhh I’m interested to know who is this SF player looking at the SSN? ?
I mean if she times it well, she could play next year. And then come back to ANZP in 2025 or 2026, to be eligible again ?♂️
After this WC the next pinnacle event is in 2026.Such a poor strategy for the NNZ to turn down SF living/playing/earning overseas opportunities. Especially post WC. Have they not learnt anything from the LL situation. Surely they could allow a small %.
Ardie Savea has just been given one year sabbatical to earn, play etc However, Tuipulotu left without dispensation and who could blame him.
Ahhhh @TB of course – link up with Julie Fitzgerald. Also isn’t Brandley retiring?
I could also see Winders trying her luck to get a SSN contract. She might feel she’s on the outer from the Ferns and after three tough ANZP seasons may want a fresh Aussie challenge.
Poi could be another one if she doesn’t make the Ferns to say, you know what, I need to freshen up my game, new environment, etc.
The Temu situation is actually quite sweet. Do the Swifts need a defender?
If Manu’a is indeed heading back to Australia would she go back to the Giants if Brandley retires? That’s if they want her and she is willing to potentially bench sit again.
@Baller I think NNZ needs to be strict on that rule. If they allowed top players to play in Aus, the ANZP comp will be such a down-graded competition. LL is the exception, not the rule. Also need to remember LL had already done a season (or two) before NNZ put this rule in place.
IMO we need our best players staying in NZ, so the younger generation have a standard to perform to.Agree TB. Also don’t forget Silver Ferns are paid an additional salary, so squad members won’t be moving over to money alone.
All good to disagree on this one. IMO allowing 1 or 2 top players a sabbatical to play overseas for a season or 2 is not going to reduce ANZp standards too detrimentally.
In fact it might be an opportunity to fill the quota of 6 with high quality imports.Otherwise players should do a Chanel Harris-Tavita.
