👩🎓 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬/𝟮𝟭 👩🎓
24 players (including some returning fan favourites) have been selected for the Vitality Roses programme with eight athletes named in the Roses Futures programme 👀🌹

Surprised Amy Carter and Iona Darroch are in the development squad, behind Yaz Parsons? – and is Sasha now not eligible for England? other than that, no surprises that I can see?
Have to admit I was surprised to see Beth Cobden, she said she wasn’t going to play during 2020? but I think she did. I got the impression she wasn’t sure if she wanted to play at this level again.
Jodie Gibson ?? I’m not sure where she’ll fit in
I would have picked Amy Carter instead of Parsons
I think from memory it’s Ella Clark, Rebekah Airey and Summer Artman that aren’t included? Sasha Corbin wasn’t in the programme last year so maybe she just wants to trial for each game and not commit to a full time programme. She has her business to run.
Not at all surprised by Beth Cobden’s inclusion as she said she wouldn’t play 2020 domestic to rehab properly but she was included in thunderbirds as a training partner so obviously felt fit enough. From what I saw she was always keen to return?
I think the same about Jodie, she’s behind a lot of players. But they must see potential. I do like her game.
Yaz Parsons is a strange choice for me. She’s not been chosen for anything other then netball Europe and the camp in Australia. She’s not super young either. Also really didn’t have a good few games with storm this year.
So Summer and Rebekah have been dropped and only Adio Halimat included? I worry about our young circle defenders coming through.
Definitely would have loved to see Amy Carter in the main squad but I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes? She did really well at the nations cup.
I wonder if Ella Clark opted out to focus on basketball or was dropped?
OMG how could I have missed Ella Clark. I’ve had a bee in my bonnet about her for ages. Basketball is very underfunded in the UK, it will be interesting to see what she does.
Rebekah Airey hmm, not sure if I’ve seen her in the senior Roses squad? come to think if it i don’t recall seeing her play a full superleague game.
Artman, I can understand her getting dropped. Sonia M hinted at it in that Sky netball show with Caroline Barker.
Yes I can’t imagine she chose basketball but who knows.
Airey was in the roses programme last year. I was surprised too but I guess it shows how lacking we are in up and coming defenders.
I haven’t seen that episode of the netball show. I’ll catch up.
My only concern is with Quashie as the new GK she is very short. In the further I don’t see how she’ll match up to tall shooters. Thanks v much for filling in the blanks for me – am exceptionally surprised about Clark AND Airey, as I thought both of them had good seasons last year (though Clark could do a bit more positive work off the ball imho). Artman is one of a crop of defenders who to me are much of a muchness, so maybe she’s going for a work + straight selection entry?
As for Beth C, maybe this is more about full time programme funding than being on court in internationals? Aren’t this main squad given full time salaries?
” much of a muchness”
I agree. Artman and Quashie were part of that tour to Jamaica when the Roses got thrashed 3-0 in the series. Artman had no impact on JFR at all. Quashie was much better but she needs to step up big time. IMO Halli Adio is also in that group, she needs court time and to step up also.
Sorry I do have one more gripe, Tchine! she only plays 1 position GS, they should be training her up as a GA too whilst she’s still young (19)
Surprised that Carter was in the future roses and not main squad, she stood up so well at nations cup so not sure she will get enough court time at high enough levels to keep developing as quickly as her potential.
Really unconvinced by Kadeen Corbin, she’s far too inconsistent to ever warrant selection over Harten and Housby and in the case one was ill or injured I’d rather see SDL get court time and improve in confidence.
In reality though I’d just love to see the roses back on court playing internationally no matter who pulled on the red dress 😂 -
