Ekenasio is not even close to Fisher. Meels had never played for Australia at U21 or Diamonds level.
She is a NZer thru her NZ born Father, (who still speaks with a NZ accent).
Fisher while engaged to a NZ guy, really has no interest in playing for NZ, media beef up story. It is a media hype, Fishers own words she’s a British through and through
Accent doesn’t matter lol
Apparently mines still strong and we’ve been living in Aus neatly 30 yrs
The Dunn comments make me laugh thou, Maryanns right, Dunn doesn’t seem to want that black dress enough.I bet Dunn is fitter than a couple, of players who got a free flight to Com Games.
Dunn might be fitter but did she tick all the boxes?
Obviously not if she chose not to be in the Reserved.
Nothing’s given to you.
And what shooters would’ve been less fitter than Dunn?Never said anything about less fitter shooters.
Keen to see what Dunn does in a new franchise and training environment. The fact she’s leaving the comfort/familiarity of the Pulse tells me she’s going all in next ANZP season. Good luck to her.
Once Dunn missed out on the Comm games team she chose to take up a basketball contract, why wouldn’t you, it would have been worth thousands of dollars?
She was back in town last week as the daughter caught up with her at the gym. She is still under Silver Fern training protocols and was due back in Wellington at the end of the week to do a yo-yo under the guidance of the SF trainer and she will be running them every week apparently.
She enjoyed her basketball stint but was disappointed with an injury and the lack of playing time. I must admit I was surprised how little time she got. I remember watching her play basketball for the southland women’s team a year or two ago and she was absolutely destroying the opposition, blocking shots, scoring 20-30 points a game whilst having a good laugh.
I thought I read somewhere no one saw her play bb but yes if money is good, why wouldn’t you
Im unsure of immigration and netball rules, marrying a kiwi does that make her a NZ? Personally i dont rate her either, she let Jury get the better of her, got warnings and had to be benched where she looked to be sulking. I understand these players are still young… but some maturity would be nice. Im not sure if its hear say/rumours or if i saw it on this forum apparently she stands up for herself to much and Thirlby doesnt like it
While I’m not a Fisher fan, she would have been more useful than Jo Harten at the Com Games. JH has a lot of off season work to do.
mcleod… Ekenasio DID play for Australia at U21 level, just not at a WYC though. I remember back when there used to be regular series between Aus & NZ at U21 level (something that doesn’t seem to happen anymore) and in one series she teamed up with fellow Queenslander Steph Wood in the shooting circle. Wells (Ekenasio) was very much an Australian until she got fed up with Roselee Jencke leaving her on the bench at Firebirds. If Jencke had played her regularly, chances are she may not even have gone to NZ.
Good O Ian, I know she did NOT play U21 WC, otherwise it was a 4 year stand down. I remember when she 1st played for NZ, I didn’t even know who she was. Anyway it worked out very well for NZ.
A future English circle of Fisher and Cardwell… wouldn’t that be “feisty” 😉
The article didn’t convince me she’s thinking too seriously about switching, rather just not ruling out the possibility.
I do really like Fisher – I think she has excellent ability to find odd but effective space with her holds, splits and movement – similar to IVD, Bueta and Potgeiter – coupled with really nice accuracy. Makes for pretty viewing. But I think it’s clear she has a much better shot at England. Harten is at a very different end of her playing career, and in NZ Fisher would be behind two very young and strong players in Nweke and Wilson.
I know people rave about Cardwell (fairly so!), but Fisher will know she has a better shot against her than Nweke…
