What does this mean for Wallam? Will they be extending squad sizes to 12?
This’d better just be clickbait. Wallam is the future, as she showed at the weekend – to do this sends all the wrong messages…
I guess she probably has a close connection with Megan Anderson, having played together with Mystics.
Depending on how she returns, she would be a serious threat to teams with her long range shot. She is/was the best in the business. Combining with Bueta, this would be a very strong combination.interesting… can’t lie, I love Folau and her style of play but Wallam could be a future diamond and is the future
That cut off for some reason but I was trying to say that Wallam is the future for the Diamonds attack end. She could be a really dominant holding shooter for us, and if she can nail it, would out Garbin I reckon from the 12.
Interesting no comment in here about the views of her husband. That’s all the talk on twitter.
When you read it, it just says she was an option they were considering and that was all before the weekend. Surely after the way Wallam played on the weekend, they have to go with her if they have any sense.
What does the views of her husband have anything to do with her playing netball?
He’s an idiot, yeah! But she’s still an amazing player.I agree about Wallam. I feel she’s earned her spot. I love the fact she is confident in shooting the 2s. Imagine if they went with Wallam, Bueta and Folau 😍
Ugh, this seriously would be the worst PR move Firebirds could make. Love Maria as a player but the views of her husband (which she obviously supports) are horrendous. And what does that have to do with her playing netball? A whole lot IMO – netball is supposed to be an inclusive sport and to have someone that thought that I should burn in hell being part of my club?
What happens with Pride round? There is no way that this would work out well.
This is a good explanation https://www.dca.org.au/blog/israel-folau-why-words-matter “While clearly not all homophobic language leads to violence against LGBTIQ+ people, the genesis of that violence begins in anti-gay rhetoric”
And before anyone comes at me for being “anti-religion” I am not. I grew up in a very strong church going family etc etc.
No, just noo no no!!!!!. After the shambles with Jemma Mi Mi last year.
This would be another PR disaster. Maria great player, but she supports her husbands barbaric beliefs.Thank you AllieC.
The choice is between an amazing but controversial player (who has also had a decent amount of time off), and a future Australian Diamond who still has a lot of development to go and will only get better. She could also be only the second First Nations player in the SSN, and a real chance to be the first Indigenous player since 1999 to represent Australia.
So much to love about that, and she has the talent to back all of that up.
Surely not..
Has Folau played any netball in/around Brisbane? I feel like would’ve seen something on here if she had.
I seemed to recall she was nursing one of her parents who was quite ill? They had relocated from AKL to Brisbane – please correct me if I’m wrong.
Also, question re the mat leave policy, Firebirds would need to offer Aiken/George a contract in 2023 (so if Wallam is a breakout this year they would mostly likely lose her next season anyway?). Unless one of her or Aiken moonlighted at GA which I don’t see happening..
Haven’t heard a thing about Maria, bar mention of her having had a baby, pretty much since they headed to France excepting when her husband was hoping to play again in Australia. I don’t even know where he is playing so nothing in the media over here (NZ) about either of them.
