I can understand people being hesitant after they had their say on the 2 point shot and were completely and utterly ignored. But apparently this is different.

Sorry, Ian, I posted the same link without realising you had already posted this thread, feel free to take that one down!

There’s some great questions on if fans feel SSN has been too focused on bringing in new fans rather than caring about loyal fans and also about the direction of the game. A lot of implications about the 2 point shot and new rules in general

Thanks for the link, it was really good to be able to tell them my opinion about that stupid 2 point shot….but there was a lot of marketing/management mumbo jumbo in there too.

I hated the two point shot in the SSN, but I’ve mellowed a bit. It may improve Australia’s long range shooting e.g. NZ Maria. The rolling subs is allowing a lot of new/developing talent take the court. I hate watching 6ft 5 plus shooters get lob after lobe.g. Fowler, boring. Let’s put an circle from the goal list out 4ft and make shooters take a longer shot. By the way, I’m not saying tall players don’t have skill but not the best netball to watch

This wouldn’t affect Fowler that much because she’s so accurate, but I’ve always thought the best way to get rid of the super-talls who can’t even shoot is to consider a player rebounding their own shot replay. It doesn’t take away rebounding because shooters can rebound their partners’ shots (which is far more of a skill in my opinion), but it stops the nonsense where shooters like Aiken keep missing and rebounding their own shots. The 2016 grand final where she shot something like 63/89 from underneath the post was just horrible to watch and made a bit of a mockery of the rules of the game. The super shot doesn’t really take the talls out of the game because they just stand underneath and rebound the misses from the shorter GA, especially when both defenders are busy defending the shot.

I liked your reply. Not being able to rebound your own shot makes a lot of sense.

Why does it feel like all these shooting rules are targeting Aiken? ;-)

I would do away with the 2 point shot but instead I would have a patch/arc of paint so u cant shoot under the post, therefore u will have to move more and be moe arcurate. Not against tall shooters but it is rather boring if its a lob and shoot. If the tall is skillful enough they will adapt.

I think the suggested rules most directly affect Aiken because she is the player who has been able to benefit most from her height when it comes to the rules of netball. She’s obviously a great player and an icon of the sport, but she doesn’t have the shooting ability, positioning or ball-handling of most other shooters, including other talls like Fowler. Her footwork is also quite poor and she should be called for stepping far more often than she is. She’s not the only shooter who would be affected by the rule that I suggested though. Koenen, Mes and CBass often miss sitters under the post.
