NWeke
Wilson
Shelby-Rickit
Williams
Toeava
Crampton
* Saunders
Winders
Fitzpatrick
Burger
*Watson
Harrison
* Co-captainsA few weeks ago I would have absolutely had Hume in the 12 but now I’m less sure. She seems to have gone backwards a bit since her injury niggle. I’d tentatively still have her in the team but if she continues the form from this week I’d replace her with TPSR. The lack of GAs in NZL right now is an area of weakness.
Ferns
Nweke, Wilson, Dunn, Hume
Poi, Crampton, Winders, Saunders
Watson, Burger, Fitzpatrick, JuryNZA
TPSR, Mes, Bird, Metuarau
Kersten, Heffernan, Souness, Gordon
Burley, Tong, Fowler, TemuNweke, Wilson, Selby Rickett, Tiana
Crampton, Poi, Saunders, Winders
Watson, Fitzpatrick, Burger,TemuUnsure about The last in all areas of court. Temu/Tiana for experience when it comes to big tournaments.
Winders played C all year but she’s great as Ferns WD. Noels rarely has a 4/4/4 split either.I’m actually still hoping NT trials some rookies over the next 7 internationals. No excuses for not making fitness standards at the end of the season.
Wilson, Mes, TPSR + 1 rookie Metuarau/Nweke (depending on what NT wants from the circle)
Crampton, Saunders, Poi, Winders
Watson, Fitzpatrick, Burger, Jury?Wilson, Nweke, TPSR (over Mes), one newbie
Crampton, Poi, Saunders, Winders
Burger, Fitzpatrick, Jury (over Temu, just), WatsonThat fourth shooting spot is interesting for me. Checked out the ANZP website and these are the stats for the three players vying for GA:
Hume – 173/235 (74%)
Williams – 168/198 (85%)
Metuarau – 158/196 (81%)I’d almost take the three of them (similar to what was done in Con Cup with the midcourt) and see who rises to the challenge of being in the team environment.
I would love Dunn to be in there but then that would push Maia forward and, in my opinion negatively affect her game.
I agree with Baller’s team, apart from Jury I have Kate Burley instead of Jury
@Worsie, how can you not pick Poi?
Here’s my wider squad,
Nweke, Wilson, Mes, TPSR, Metuarau, Hume
Poi, Winders, Elley, Crampton, Saunders, Souness, Heffernan, Watson, Burger, Fitzpatrick, Jury, Burley, TemuThere is space for 1 more… Williams for the experience, or another defender Fifita, Burley.
I’m hopeful we will see lots of new Ferns given opportunities in the CC ahead of Comm games. I’d go
Wilson
TPSR
Nweke
Metuarua
Crampton
Saunders
Heffernan
Poi
Burger
Watson
Jury
FitzpatrickBut also would love to see Williams, Burley and Souness in the mix!
Don’t think she’d dare to punch anyone with DNT as coach. I feel Noeline will continue to work with Falkner, if she continues to meet the fitness standards. In saying that, my 12 (and as long as they have ALL met the fitness standards):
Shooters – Wilson Nweke TPSR Mes
Midcourt – Crampton Poi Saunders Winders
Defence – Watson Sulu Burger JuryTPSR and Mes have international experience. However I can see one of them being dropped, eventually, for Falkner/Tiana or maybe Hume.
My team of 12
Wilson, Nweke, Selby-Rickit, Metuarau
Crampton, Saunders, Kersten, Saunders
Burger, Burley, Fitzpatrick, WatsonI imagine there will be another 4 or so spots in the wider squad – so I’d include Mes, Poi, Heffernan and Jury.
Further to my team pick, I think Noeline will need to rotate the GA options for a half each.
Regardless if she stays with her established options (TPSR and/or Mes) or brings in fresh blood (Metuarau, et al), I don’t think any one option would be able to run out a full game against Weston, Bruce, etc. Not necessarily a bad thing, but Taurua will be needing on court contributions from everyone.
I wonder who will meet the SF fitness standards though. I heard the Mystics and Tactix have implemented them, and the Stars and Steel seem very fit, but not sure about the Pulse or Magic.
