Interesting, I think Nweke is the only certainty to be going to the games at this point. She is so dominant in this league that how can you not put her in? I’d probably throw in Burger as well as she has been dominant in the few games that the Tactix have played.
With the way Nolene has picked players lately who really knows who is going to go or not?
I’m pretty sure Kersten has her ticket booked. Even if she should but!!!!!
Nweke needs to train against the style of defence that the likes of Sam Poolman (retired) and of this last week Olivia Lewis put on Fowler. That was huge.
Nweke doesnt have the experience to be able to adapt without instruction and its not as if time outs are part of the competition. Long bombs into her will be gobbled up by Sterling/Wilson in any game against Jamaica so she’s going to have to be able to get around the tight body on defence. She’s been great in the ANZ – I laugh when I read it’s only because of her height as people forget about Dunn and Bird. Who knows who will get the shooters positions.Yea Nweke isn’t the tallest in the competition but is most accurate… I think what she has over Bird & Dunn is her jump coming from a athletic background
In saying that Bird & Dunn can manage the long shots if required but I’ve rarely seen Nweke do them maybe she hasn’t had a need up with her positioningArticle on newshub about Manu’a and a possible SF selection.
To be clear there are far higher skilled GS’s in the comp than Nweke. Her clear advantage is her vertical jump and long arms, she simply out jumps everyone to get the ball. Unless she is right beneath the basket she won’t shoot because she can’t.
I wouldn’t take her because if teams do shut down the high lob or if there is a defender than can actually out jump her then she is of no use because she has no other skills to get the ball where she needs it.
That being said I still think she will be the first ticket that NNZ print to go to the games. Who knows, she might just dominate the international defenders too.
I think Mes’s form sees her leapfrog Metuarau.
I think five defenders will be taken, with Burger pushed into that WD position. I don’t think she flourishes in GD for the Ferns, esp without Jane.
I can’t pick the rest of the players, but my current 9/12 is below.
FYI I’m not a Kersten fan by any stretch but I think she’s got a ticket to Birmingham, esp over Poi barring a serious form reversal.
I think we’ll see different shooting and defense pairings for half games. Eke won’t be able to run out full games, similar for Nweke against the big 3.
Defensively, I just don’t think we have a solid in circle combination so will be lots of chopping and changing. Manu’a could benefit from her Pulse season alongside Jury.
Ekenasio, Mes, Nweke, Wilson
Crampton, Kersten, Saunders
Burger, JuryMaryann, to answer your question
I don’t know
If she thinks she can’t she won’t put her name forward
Which is what she did last timeRe babies. It’s 2022 so no way would Commonwealth Games organizers get away with not being receptive to needs of a young Mum with a baby. There will be an allowance for mothers not to stay in village. Dame Val Adams stopped staying in the villages for most of her career. I would think it’s up to country concerned to work through all that is needed. Otherwise it’s very discriminatory. Re Ekenasio – I believe her 1st baby was born just before the last Comm Games as well and think she had less time after his birth. This time she has 9 months so I have confidence she will be 100% fit. She is 1 very determined athlete.

I see burger got pushed out to WD in the quad series, would assume cos the Fitzpatrick/Karaka combo worked pretty good. the Jury/burger combo worked well during the mens game but they had little options, Fitzpatrick/burger was to quiet… bring back Jane 😭😭
