💬 "Playing for England has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life"
After 16 years and 117 caps, Jo Harten [@Jarten] has announced her retirement from international netball with immediate effect 🌹#ThankYouJo

Wow! The Giants media release mentions her 100% commitment to the team, but I wonder how much longer she intends to play. I remember watching her at the Tactix in 2012 when they could barely register a win, and thinking she was brilliant even back then. Here’s hoping she continues on in SSN for a few years to come
After 16 years and 117 caps, @Jarten has called time on her international career with @EnglandNetball.
Harten leaves the Roses’ program as one of the recognisable and highly regarded players and we couldn't be prouder 🧡

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was wondering the other day how long she intended to go on. Genuinely she is one of my favourite non-Australian players and always has been. Such a creative and determined player. Thanks for your dedication to international netball Jo!
I really hope the timing of this announcement doesn’t reflect on the knee injury from the weekend, but seems pretty likely that it does.
I love watching Jo play, and am so sad to read this news
What a sad announcement. I really enjoyed watching Jo play.
Does anything think the timing of yesterdays injury and her international retirement is a coincidence?
Will she also miss the remainder of the ssn season? Will this mean Glasgow will take her spot at World Cup?It’s been a privilege. Thank you. 🌹 pic.twitter.com/Mxh0ybhVi3

Glasgow is eligible to play for England (Cath Cox says she “has family who is English”) but personally I doubt she would- I think England will take Housby, Cardwell, SDL, Tchine with maybe Reed as reserve? Even taking Pitman as reserve to use Metcalf in GA. Glasgow has a better chance taking Bueta’s place and challenging for Garbin’s.
A real shame to see Jo retire, she’s a great player to watch and such a strong leader in that environment. Glad we still get to watch her and Dwyer play together, they have a great relationship.- This reply was modified 1 year, 4 months ago by StatsNerd21.

NB12 a rumour they talked about on Centre Circle last week was that Glasgow was being talked about to play for the Roses cause she has dual citizenship (i think)
That would be very interesting
A true legend of the sport. England would have never reached the heights they did over 2018 and 2019 without her. It does feel like her knee has played a part in this which is sad to see, hopefully she’ll be able to have a strong second half of the season with the Giants. It’ll be interesting to see if she’ll stick around for some more domestic seasons. Giants are in a good position in terms of Letherbarrow (and potentially Austin coming back to Sydney if an opportunity opens up), but the Giants would really miss her leadership on court if she was to retire domestically at the end of the season.
Thanks for the info! I feel out of the loop.
That would be interesting, but I do hope Glasgow remains hungry to represent Australia. SM and selectors have a role to play to ensure she knows where she stands with potential Diamonds selection.
al_ex why would Austin go back to Giants and share GA with Dwyer when she’s number one at Vixens?
