I agree TS Nweke won’t make the main squad and I think some of the other U21 will miss out too. They will have their time next year.
I like Kersten but for me she is behind Winders. For some reason I can’t see NT selecting Kersten, Saunders and Crampton not when she has Poi, Souness, MRB, Pederson and Winders. Then after the WYC she’ll have Gordon and Earle.
Winders and Kersten didn’t even make my Development Team selections (!!), but with no Langman perhaps the thinking is there needs to be some experience in the midcourt.. but feel Crampton and Saunders provide that?
What time is the announcement do we know? 10am or midday? Later?
WeWood, yep I agree “experience in the midcourt” provided by Crampton and Saunders but I don’t feel you need both of them
and definitely not for the next full 4-year cyclePoi Souness Saunders Crampton Gordon are the first 5 middies on my list.
Either Winders or Kersten for that 6th spotSaunders/Crampton showed this year how good they really are.
I am going to be upset if Dunn is not included. Would love to see Noels develop a Dunn Wilson combo as an option going forward. Dunn looks fit on court and holds her own against all defenders.
To what you’re saying TS, maybe in Langman’s absence, Noeline wants the security of an established midcourt combination (Saunders / Crampton) at least for the rest of this year while also introducing new/new-old faces.
Agree. I said they showed how good they are…..
Saunders Crampton Poi Souness Gordon are my top 5 picks. Obviously low in WD players, but I am sure Winders or Kersten will be added, and Burger/SB can play WD
No team naming on the midday news, just that Taurua will name the squad and Development team sometime today.
NNZ website has the ‘Squad’ section cleared with the header “Squad announcement coming soon” but nothing on their Twitter or FB (from what I can see) mentioning a time for the announcement.
2020/21 Silver Ferns Squad
Ekenasio, Mes, Selby-Rickit, Wilson
Burger, Crampton (VC), Gordon, Kersten, Poi, Saunders, Souness
Fitzpatrick, Jury, Rore, Sokolich-Beatson, Watson (VC)2020/21 Silver Ferns Development Squad
Bird, Dunn, Falkner, Hume, Nweke
Earle, Heffernan, Winders
Fakahokotau, MikaerePulse one off from their entire starting seven being named in the Ferns squad.
No room for Metuarau in the Development Squad with Hume selected ahead of her. Interesting.
Other notable names to also not feature in the Development Squad include Burley, Elley, Ioane, Kara, and Reuelu-Buchanan.

Ekenasio retained as Captain in the above team list also!
God, next time just name the entire pulse squad, lord!
A bit cookie cutter with their selections, but having a bit of CWG18 flashbacks with this team. Obviously better condition.
Burley, Elley, Tiana, deserves at the very LEAST a spot in the development squad, I would have Burley in the main squad tbh- but perhaps they have other commitments.

Surprised Winders isn’t named and Souness is. I thought both of them were underwhelming this season
From the squad named I’d like to see a final 12 of
Ekenasio, Wilson, TPSR
Crampton, Saunders, Poi, Gordon, Burger
Rore, Jury, Watson, FitzpatrickMes and MSB probably a little while off getting court time especially with the Ferns having not played ANZP
Interesting that Mikaere has been included in Development squad, I thought there were a lot of better defenders – Tong, Burley, Fifita
Karin Burger
Gina Crampton
Ameliaranne Ekenasio
Sulu Fitzpatrick
Maddy Gordon
Kelly Jury
Claire Kersten
Bailey Mes
Kimiora Poi
Katrina Rore
Shannon Saunders
Te Paea Selby-Rickit
Michaela Sokolich-Beatson
Whitney Souness
Jane Watson
Maia WilsonMy thoughts.
I really like the main squad Noels has chosen, bar Souness who’s form doesn’t warrant selection IMO. I also think Jury’s inclusion is strange given that Jane Watson has Bassett covered well and truly.
But…. I’d love to know if the Development Squad is ‘NZ A’ or not cause it sure as hell doesn’t look it. Where the hell is Kate Burley??? Picking Mikaere over her is a joke. Surely if you were ‘developing’ players you would pick the 23 year old IN FORM Burley over 32 year old Mikaere who is so far off the pace. Burley’s been in this development squad the last 2 years, then comes off a breakthrough 2020 season and doesn’t get picked!
