How Metuarau, Pedersen, Tong, Burley, Elley and MRB missed out on the Development squad when Mikaere, Hume, Falkner and Bird made it is beyond me.
I’m with you on Souness and Mikaere. Souness I can live with, given she was part of that squad series group. But there’s no reason to have Mikaere in any of these squads at all, sorry. Her form has been off, and to have Burley overlooked for someone clearly winding down there career is a bit of a slap in the face.
Hume…. Hume is a strange one for me. She has a beautiful shot- it’s accuracy that’s letting her down. A great mover of the all, so hopefully being around the environment will help her out in that regard. Same thing with Metuarau, she’s unlikely not to be picked for the wider group.
Yeah I rate Hume too but no where near accurate enough yet. Beautiful passer and moves well but need to hit 80-85% consistently to make the squad.
Concur with the comments about the Development Squad and particularly Burley, Elley (after her best ANZP performance in the final IMO) and Metuarau – even Tong – who I would start ahead of Mikaere, personally.
Really interested in the ‘plan’ for Hume – definitely feel she’s got potential, but needs serious work on that shot. I think she has the makings of an Ekenasio release. Or, is she going to be made into an Adine Wilson-style WA?
Looking ahead, hope Metuarau plans to move teams. Interesting comments from her that she struggled with being on the bench last year, but on reflection her fitness wasn’t up to scratch.. I think her shooting accuracy has waned significantly since she hasn’t been in the starting seven.
Geez, just realized Pedersen didn’t make the Development Squad and I had her in my Ferns 16!
Must be fitness related, but she looks in great shape?! Real head scratcher.
I also really like how Hume moves and creates play but she needs to hit the post before she can make the development squad, especially considering how competitive it was this year. Did she shoot a single game all season above 75%? I feel like she was in the 30s and 40s in a few games. If she does get the shooting up like Mes did she could really be the next Ekenasio.
Just checked the ANZP website and Hume’s shooting accuracy was 66.5%.. yikes.
Hume isn’t a GA. Beautiful mover but cannot finish it off.
I guess if she plays with Nweke Bird or Dunn, she won’t have to shoot.I think she would make a very good WA. Don’t see her being a Ferns GA anytime soon
Wewood, I would see it as NT investing time in shooters.
Mes and Faulkner are returning from injury. Dunn, Nweke and Bird are at varying degrees of fitness who play GS.
I imagine Hume is currently the fittest out of the shooters and plays GA.I’m wondering what NT has planned for Hume. Her accuracy is a problem but I can remember thinking the same thing about Mes. NTs comment was, well she hasn’t worked with me before, and look at her at NWC2019.
Hume improved this season, away from mystics so after a season with Dame NT who knows ????
Taurua on Breakfast just now..
It‘s a team of 26 (Ferns and Development Squads combined) and “if fitness standards are met” anyone can move into the top side – or words to that effect.
Also, the 26 is about building toward the 2022/2023 pinnacle events, as well as the cycle following so “when people leave there aren’t gaps”. Interesting.
