Soooo.. how much longer can NA keep going?
Obviously gives more context to tendering the SSN Grand Final location, but wouldn’t you think they’d hold onto every last cent instead of giving the teams prize money?
Regardless, sounds like very poor comms between NA and players. Am sure if NA opened up more about the situation the players would back them to do whatever it takes. They’re not unreasonable, but they certainly have grounds for being mightily p*ssed off at their treatment.
What a shambles, fancy having nothing in place when leaving the ANZ championship.
Maybe the salary cap for the SSN teams is to high.Maryann, I also read that Rugby Australia wants out of the Pacific Rugby comp,
$6.5million in salaries – 8 teams -$812,000 per team. Does this only cover the players, including Training PartnerS?
I don’t think this explains the decision to sell the rights to the GF for $625,000. With $125,000 of this going to prize money, and more to cover grass roots activity (Good!) the remainder will contribute far less than 1/20th of the debt let alone ongoing running costs. Good ‘optics’?
How much does it cost to light and heat that huge building in Fitzroy that has very few people working in it?
Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan open to gambling sponsorship but denies organisation is facing financial ruin
Oh goddddddddd, I know we’re in absolute debt but pleaseeee no gambling sponsorships. How awful. I understand why but I really hope we can find some other type of sponsorship.
I don’t mind them looking at them. They haven’t said they would do it. Right now they need to look at every option and so I’d be more concerned if they came out with a blanket no to anything right now. They need to start making smart financial decisions not emotional ones. Ryan certainly doesn’t seem to be the type to shy away from a hard unpopular decision if she believes on balance it’s best for the game’s financial position. Good on her. 93% of the broadcast money going to player salaries is ridiculous and completely untenable. The NRL is at ~ 40% in comparison.
Yeah definitely agree, if it needs to be done then it needs to be done. We need the money.
I definitely have a greater appreciation for what Ryan is trying to do at the moment. I can understand the anger about the GF and things like that but she’s definitely trying to get us out of this hole (although I still don’t know why the prize money was necessary if we’re in that deep).
The prize money part confuses me as well. I’m sure there is some sort of explanation but I’d love to know what it is. Perhaps compensation for lost income by not hosting a GF? (I have no idea what the financial position of individual teams and state orgs are other than general whispers around which ones have more and less).
I don’t know but if you’re gonna sell the GF hosting rights you may as well go all in, that extra $125,000 isn’t nothing when auditors don’t think you’re going to survive the next 12 months’ payments.
I agree. What do they normally get for hosting though? Is it contractual and NA have had to compensate somehow?
The fact they have a going concern notice and yet have made that decision makes me think there is more to it.
Gambling sponsorship shouldn’t be a issue. Netball NZ get good money from the NZ TAB, pub charity (pokies), get put back into the community, NZ Lotteries support grass roots sport.b
