Watson came on this quarter and applied a lot of pressure on Austin. Her confidence has dropped a bit and in combination with some poor feeds, Contax have taken the momentum.
Player to watch: Sam Simons
Basketball is her first sport (I think she is a fringe NBL player – not sure) and only made the Contax League side this year. She has a bit of Tippett in her with her basketball background. There is a lot of young SA shooters coming through at the moment but I think she could be one to watch.
That was a messy centre pass and (I think there was a bit of contact that may have been missed but not too sure) Matrics have turned the Contax C pass. They should win from here.
Matrics C goes offside with 30 seconds left, this could be it. And… yep, Contax won off that turnover but, to be fair, they were up by 5/6 goals and it shouldn’t have had to come down to that.
What a crazy finish to both games! Love those sorts of GFs!
Totally agree, both amazing GFs and such close games.
Would love to understand the thought behind benching Orr, and not bringing on the experience of Packard in the last quarter when things got crazy. I feel her experienced head might’ve been what Matrics needed?
Yes, I think taking Orr off might have been a mistake. Within a few minutes Westover was involved in a few turnovers and you could see that maybe it wasn’t the right decision. It worked in previous weeks but I think coming on in the last quarter was a tough ask,
Think coaching moves didn’t help Matrics. However Molly Watson came on and changed the game completely.
To think Contax starting shooters both didn’t play tonight because of injury is amazing. Both shooters on court tonight were great.
Simons has played college basketball in America, got all star 5 in the premier league basketball this year, and best youth player. She’s signed with Adelaide lightning for next season.Chelsea Lemke speaking beautifully.
Ahhh I tuned out, hope I can watch it on replay.
Great shooting by Lemke tonight. I would say that’s been a one down fall of her career, is a bit of inaccuracy. Not playing there all year (minimal court time) and putting out that display was great.
Simons is an interesting story- thanks for the info! She was good, the lay-up and pass to Lemke would have been so hard to defend! Personally though, I would have given player of the match to Watson. Totally got Contax back in the game.
Also agree with everyone about coaching decisions for Matrics. Orr at the very least should have been kept on.
This is all based if netball SA’s stats are up to date.
Horsburgh – 302/340
Green – 366/442
Simons – 161/190
Lemke – 26/35
Anderson-Ives (was on the bench) – 78/111Amazing effort to lose two of their starting/highest volume shooters.
