I think Stacey worked with Wright last year for a tournament so maybe we will see him? I would love to see her at least one assistant coach who is coaching in some capacity in the SSN
Interesting that she’ll still be Fever coach until the end of next year. I wonder if that’s a sign that there won’t be any international matches for the Australian girls before next season? It’ll be interesting to see if she’ll be given much selection power for the Diamonds as well.
Wow, never expected that!
Good on her. I hope she does well.
She didn’t even cross my mind when thinking about the new coach.
She hasn’t done anything super exciting to develop Australian talent.
Bruce and Antiss are the only players that have shown improvement under her.
If she names any Fever players, bar Bruce in her Squad, I’ll be surprisedI think we will see a new captain though. Bruce or Watson. Can’t see Bassett being captain for much longer.
Bassett should never have been made Captain. It’s clear that she isn’t a natural leader and she already has so much pressure to deal with as the strike shooter. I think it might allow her play with a bit more freedom.
As long as this doesn’t impact selections in the way I fear, it’s probably best not to judge before we see what she can do. This is kind of screaming deja vu with the Southby situation in NZ. Granted she hasn’t bypassed a NT but she has still been given the nod ahead of some tempting options. I personally would have liked to see Vicki Wilson or JWT.
Also hugely important to emphasise that I wish the person chosen every success and always will be supporting the @AussieDiamonds #worldclass https://t.co/OjwUMm9X73

I am going to maintain an open mind.
Marinkvich will want to win so she is not going to select Charles or Colyer when she has Watson, Price and Hadley. However, I do suspect it will assist Anstiss. Who on form should not be in contention but will probably make the broader Diamonds squad.
I was unaware that the Diamonds coach was also a selector?
As to her ability…. well how well have Fever done under her?
Anstiss was exactly who I was thinking of as well. Also Bruce, but she clearly deserves selection at least at present.
Hmmmm. Will be interested to see who the other candidates were. JWT felt like a clear high-performance favourite, but her + Fitzgerald could’ve been seen as too divisive.
Marinkovich has a lot of potential as a coach and we’ve seen a bit of it at Fever, but will need a solid support network. Would love to see people like Nicole Cusack and Tracey Robinson (where has she gone??) brought into the fold! Ferguson and Anderson feel a bit too fresh to complement Marinkovich.
I found this buzzword-filled quote in the press release entertaining:
“My coaching philosophy has always been to evolve my athletes by embedding a collaborative purpose and generating principles and standards that enable players, support staff, stakeholders and the wider netball community to thrive and advance towards sustained success.”
………meaning???
Jbss I was also thinking the same thing.
The appointment of Marinkovich is eerily reminiscent of Janine Southby’s appointment as Ferns coach. Both had the right jargon/management speak and buzzwords, but at least Southby had success with Steel. Marinkovich has not had any either with Fever or Fast 5.
Also Marinkovich didn’t show much of her ‘people person’ skills when she dumped Nat Medhiurst.
Her selection strategy of ATN over Medhurst was bizarre and for all her talk of empowerment of her players it has taken a long time to have any success with ATN.
She had Bassett for years but it was Taurua who brought out the best in Bassett.
As others have said – a very underwhelming choice.
🥇"She needs to bring home the Gold."🥇
Liz has high expectations for new Diamonds coach Stacey Marinkovich.
