        Hi forummers, I’m genuinely surprised to see how little action there is on our forum (given Im watching more youtube games than ever :) ). Any tips/ gossip on diamonds coach. I have been watching Gordy’s gasbags – which suggests Simone McKinnis is the front runnner among those ‘in the know’…. I really like her…. but i don’t know if Vixens have shown the grit when it matters at business end of seasons lately…. I gues the preference for her to select locql players over internationals would put her in a goodl ight with Netball Aus? As a kiwi is was just so blimmin obvious that Taurua was the lady for the job…. but there doesn’t seem to be such an ‘obvious’ choice over in aus at the moment. what are your thoughts?

          Gordy’s Gasbags are always great fun to watch. In between multitasking, I am watching the Silver Ferns vs England 2019 Netball World Cup Semi-Final.

            My thoughts are… I think they would love it if there was someone who was a mix of Simone McKinnis and Briony Akle. I reckon McKinnis has the experience and stature in the game but Akle seems to have the flair and the support of her players, a bit like Taurua.

              I think it will be McKinnis.
              Vixens haven’t really pushed through to win, but she has developed those players to push for Diamonds selection.
              Akle will be the Diamonds coach one day, but they won’t want to rush her too soon.

              Vicki Wilson could be a decent choice?
              Sue Hawkins as an assistant?

                      Smart move from her. Super talented but don’t want to become someone like Southby and thrown into the deep end too soon.
                      Will be the Diamonds coach one day.

                        Hmm… so will she assume a dual coaching role (Diamonds and Vixens?) or will McMahon take over the Vixens. But I thought Simone signed till 2021 for Vixens. Any thoughts on Fitgerald and Marinkovich?

                          Forgot about Fitzgerald.

                          I wonder if Jane Woodlands Thompson will apply. Especially after tasting international netball with the Ferns.

                            I think JWT has said she isn’t sure if she would return to a Head coach position in netball so not sure about that one as much as I would enjoy her taking on that challenge. I am slightly worried, I really don’t see someone sitting behind LA pushing to be chosen. Chances are, it will be Simone but to be honest with her amazing line-up at the Vixens, I’ve found them to be well below expectations and too predictable at times so I don’t know how great a fit having her as Diamonds coach would be. Hopefully the deep pool of athletes to choose from will help her if she is chosen.

                              I find Simone to be fairly similar to Wai Taumaunu. Probably would be great to be Diamonds specialist coach, or assistant – not so much as a Head coach. I feel the same way about Vicki Wilson.

                              I do think someone like JWT would be a perfect fit. She has a great view of the overall game. And she generally selects a well balanced team.

                              I’m in two minds, when thinking about Julie Fitzgerald being the coach. As I feel she hasn’t done as good as she have, with the Giants. Last season I felt she had selected a very unbalanced team.
                              However I do feel, she could make the Diamonds team great again – due mainly to her experience as a coach.

                              I do wonder how someone like Megan Anderson or Claire McM would go in being the head coach. I wonder if they’d change the whole program, team etc OR run it in line with what LA has created?
