Only real disagreement is taking Sulu as a reserve if she’s carrying an injury.
The rest I’m ok with, bar Nweke and Crampton (realistically) everyone can play at least 2 positions.
Watching the Sky coverage, first question Anna Stanley asked was why no to Toeava.
While Noels talked to struggling to fit two WA specialists, she also alluded to the (physical capacity) loads – eight games across 10 days.
Next question about who was WD, was non-committal, saying Burger, Heffernan, Gordon and Karaka (referring to her there for last year’s Jamaica series) can all play there. Interesting to see where she lands for the big games.
Re the reserves:
MRB – first word was engine.
Metuarau – offers something different, also Noels said she is comfortable she can up her volume in camp.
Fitzpatrick – leadership and experience to slot into the 12 if needed. So basically Toeava missed out, because of fitness issues.
Bit of a surprise with Mila a reserve.I’m very excited for this team. I see speed, experience, growth and versatility.
Probably the big shock is no Toeava at all in the squad, but she was always a 50/50 prospect in my eyes. While Peta has a magical connection with Nweke, Nweke is relatively easy to feed so I’m sure the midcourters selected will make a good fist of it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the starting 7 doesn’t get played until we meet SA or JAM.
@museboy I assumed the same when it came to feeding Nweke. But watching the games from Quad/Con Cup series, I saw a huge difference on how that ball was getting delivered from Peta vs every other midcourter.
I do feel this midcourt can deliver, but if I was to make a change it would be Toeava for Crampton. There’s partnerships that shouldn’t be broken up or taken for granted. Just my opinion! If fitness was the main reason for not taking Toeava, then I agree with her non selection. Everyone should be hitting the fitness standards, no matter who you are.
Peta a wonderful player but you replace Grace then her whole game dynamic changes
She struggles to consistantly hit circle edge which will be needed to feed Maia/ Tepaea, Toeava resorts to bombing the ball in when she cant be bothered working, her lack of willingness to recycle and grind to hit circle edge has probably cost her the selection & we all know that comes down to fitness, Mila has shown that all season her ball retention and ability to service her shooters been a stand out.
Milah can also feed grace well just watch the series against Jamaica last year.Just watched DNT interview on YouTube. I’m hearing a lot “cover”. This person can cover this, this person can cover that. With the exception of Nweke, everyone else is fit and can cover.
I still think it’s important to have specialists in each position. I can see in our defence, she can go so many ways in terms of combinations. Have to wonder if that will cause more headaches come to the big games?@IMO in the crunch games I think we all know who the starting 7s will be.
Aus/Eng/SA: Nweke, Ekenasio, Crampton, Heffernan, ?, Burger, Watson
Jamaica: Nweke, Ekenasio, Crmapton, Heffernan, Burger, WatsonIMO the super subs will be Jury and Karaka if Burger and Watson aren’t having the desired effect.
What I’m scratching my head to is who is the first choice WD at the moment.
