Wow, didn’t see that one coming but I’m glad it wasn’t swept under the rug. So let me get this straight, NNSW is paying the Swifts’ fine (delay in reporting exposure) and then also paying NA the cost for the additional flights that Giants ended up requiring? Is the $10,000 suspended in regard to Giants’ failure to report COVID site exposure? The article feels a little unclear (probably due to the nature of NNSW owning both clubs).
@Netballcrazy – thats how I read it (the same as you).
This may be why Swifts and Giants ended up doing so much isolation.I thought GIANTS were owned by GWS AFL. Are they not?
No, it’s a partnership. Unlike Magpies and Lightning, the Giants are still under the control of their state association.
Wait so why is the Giants’ fine suspended? Sure it’s the same overarching organisation having to pay the fines but they are two separate clubs that still did not fulfil their duties…
Without the details being made public I’d hazard a guess that differences in the timing of the eventual notifications may be the reason for one fine to be paid, one suspended. It could also be (ahem) coach vs players involved in the breach.
Surely it’s time for NNSW to of load the Giants. How can they afford to own 2 teams, as well as run all aspects of Netball in the state.
When the 2 teams do play in Sydney, the Swifts bring the crowds, Giants certainly do not.Greater Western Sydney region has a population of 2.5m alone, compare that to all of Western Australia at 2.66m – that is enough to sustain a netball club.
I went to a couple of Giants home games this year, not because I am a fan but because I liked the teams they were playing. The crowds were decent, the revenue opportunities with in the stadium grounds were plentiful and there were Giants supporters everywhere. Oh, and they made the grand final this year after being minor premiers. That doesn’t sound like a team that should be offloaded to me.
