On Monday the 27th of May, Lisa Alexander and Angie Bain, the Diamonds’ Wellbeing Manager, picked up the phone. It was the start of a marathon, letting the entire national squad know if they were in or out of the 2019 Netball World Cup team. They’d break the news quickly – Lisa says the players don’t like “fluff” – and share a conversation. Lisa explained, “We tried to make sure our communication was clear, and that our messages were consistent. We also needed to ensure whether the athletes were okay, and whether they wanted more support. It’s particularly tough on the athletes who haven’t been selected, and Angie might need to follow them up.”
