A fascinating signing period has come and gone in Suncorp Super Netball. It has created a lot of interest among netball fans, particularly with the lack of international netball in Australia this year. There were a handful of surprise moves involving some high profile players, which kept everyone guessing. And what are we left with? There is a good mix of talent across all eight teams and there is no one side that anyone could regard as easy-beats.

Great summary thanks Ian. It is a sad situation for Australian shooting pathways when there are good shooters that can’t get a contract.

I know that there has been calls for Australia to adopt the UK style limits on imports with only 1 import allowed in each 3rd to be on court. If this was adopted here, it wouldn’t greatly affect the lack of shooting positions for Australian players as only the Swifts have 2 imports in shooting positions – Wallace and Housby.

The biggest impact would be on the defence end. It would impact Lightening – Pretorius and Dehaney,
Magpies – Mentor and Ward and T’birds – Sterling and Wilson.

Vixens players aren’t all on one year contracts. Vixens never announced the length of any player contracts.

Mundy and Kumwenda have signed for two. Others as well just not sure who.

Okay, thanks for that. That’s weird.

Is there any news on Maweni, Bassett, Wallam, McCollin, am I forgetting anyone else?

Maweni could possibly be Team Bath’s last signing in the VNSL. They’re still a player short. Have to wait and see on that.

I assume Wallam will just continue to be a Fever training partner which is a ridiculous waste of talent. Same with Bassett who doesn’t appear to have a team anywhere (really thought she would go to the UK with Lisa Alexander), and McCollin no idea but assume she’s just gone back to T&T. She played in the recent test series there against Jamaica.
