Good on her, let’s hope she can put her injuries behind her and play full season. interesting to see what happens next at the Swifts. Will Wallace and Haythornwaite sign, interesting after they lost the final both Wallace And Haythornwaite returned to Sydney and did not stay in Queensland with the others. Does that mean they are leaving or staying? Both only returned home on Saturday
Many of the others remained in Brisbane as they are participating in the Diamonds and Development Team Camp that starts tomorrow so I wouldn’t read too far into that
I did think that when Housby stayed in Aus and didn’t go home which I’m sure certainly isn’t because she doesn’t want to be at home with her family too. It made me wonder if Wallace and Haythornthwaite won’t be at Swifts next year. Would surely mean that Garbin plays GS and Fraser makes the team. Then maybe another shooter? Sascha Glasgow would be great as a GS/GA backup. But I’d really rather not think about it as I do love the swifts attack as they have been the past couple of years.
I also got the feeling that maybe Wallace and Haythornthwaite weren’t coming back. Both of them have talked at length about wanting to be near family, and in Haythornthwaite’s case she’s probably a bit surplus to demands. I really doubt Wallace would leave the Swifts. I would love to see Dwyer or Letherbarrow brought back if Wallace does return home, and Fraser more than deserves a contract.
WD is the real problem area for the Swifts, but I think if they really work Turner and Moore there over the off-season and bring in a defensive midcourt specialist coach they will be ok for 2021. The problem for them this year was mainly consistency, I really think their personnel is good enough to win them another premiership. Getting Simpson/Parmenter etc. would be great but I don’t think it needs to be a top priority. Craig has shown that she is at this level as an impact player as well, maybe not for a full 60 though.
Think Helen is doing some travelling in Sydney. On Sam Wallace page there was a post about removals, think all their belongings are in storage. Think Fraser is good but is she really ready, Haythornwaite started most of the games except for the Finals when she didn’t play.
I agree, WD is the problem area but Craig could do the bulk of the WD work and you always have Turner, Moore and Hadley to swap in depending on what was needed. Proud and Fraser can easily cover WA and C if Hadley did need to move to WD. But I would then like to see a shooter join who also covers WA. I prefer both Proud and Hadley at C so I don’t know what options that would leave the swifts in attack. I thought the Swifts would again be the team with the least changes but seeing Haythornthwaite and Wallace leave Aus has made me much more uncertain.
I thought Fraser was far better than Haythornthwaite this year. Nat started pretty well when Maddy Proud was coming back but as soon as Proud started to dominate her form disappeared. Sure she got a lot of court time but so did all the Swifts, it was clearly Akle’s strategy to rotate them profusely. Haythornthwaite’s basic play turnovers that turned the 10 goal lead against the Giants in 2 minutes was painful to watch. It cost them a spot in the Major SF as well. I really like what Nat brings to the Roses and I think she’s a really talented player and great person, but Fraser is more than ready to be a contracted bench-warmer/impact player.
Agree with Haythornwaite form think she struggled with the quick turn around of games, think she is still bothered by her hamstring. tayla not so sure of feel that if Haythornwaite does not return would be good to have experience out there. Would that be Pitman? She could help Fraser develop.
I do agree Nat’s form went when Maddy’s came, which I guess is lucky for the Swifts we always had one in form player but it can’t really be the case next year. I love watching Nat with the Swifts, she fits in so well with their culture and can be a great impact player for them. But that would mean her sitting on the bench and not getting all that much court time which I don’t think would help her in the roses. The thing Nat gives you that nobody else does though is GA backup. Which yes, wasn’t incredible when she did play GA this year but I think that’s because she probably hasn’t been rotating into the circle enough. If she even took a quarter at GA when Housby was out rather than playing Garbin at GA when she’s clearly a GS, I think it would have been a different story.
My two hopes for Swifts WD were Cobden or Simpson and both of those have been proved wrong today. I don’t know who they’ll sign.
I was listening to the goal circle podcast and Abby McCulloch said that she’d heard Nat H was staying another year. I did find it strange that Wallace and Nat didn’t stay in Queensland but they may also not have the money? Sam probably still sends lots home even though her Dad has passed and Nat has a house with her partner?
Also Helen didn’t return to the UK during Covid lockdown because Sam Wallace couldn’t go back to T&T so wanted to stay with her.Just heard what Abby mcculloch said about Nat and it looks as though she could be there. Tayla Fraser needs another year and then she will be ready. who else for WD?
Swifts have now announced Housby and Wallace as expected.
Yay 🙌🏼
Attack's back! Delighted to announce that both Sam Wallace and Helen Housby will return to the Swifts attack in 2021! ❤️
