I’m sure I’ve seen Fraser at WD too, I’m really excited she has a full contract she totally deserves it!
So who is the recognised WD for Swifts? Is it Hadley or maybe Fraser, think Moore is more GK or GD. Noticed that Swifts will not be making any further announcements until Suncorp decide on squad sizes. Would have thought that would and should have happened by now
It’s a bit ridiculous clubs are signing teams without knowing what they need! Makes sense why they have picked versatile players in Moore and Fraser since they don’t even know the squad sizes
How crazy that squad sixes still Teng confirmed.
also how funny that Swifts don’t have a proper WD and Giants don’t have a proper WA ??♀️
Right players in the wrong places?Unfortunately, I see Swifts having the same problem in 2021 at WD. Hopefully Turner being back to full fitness will set them up better and if squads of 12 are used, we could see a TP get a lot of court time.
Giants have signed Hay, was she not a WA before getting a contract? This squad size confirmation is annoying me, not professional at all and how can teams be expected for create well balanced roster without knowing these details. I understand it won’t affect the number of contracted players but for a team such as Swifts who lack a WD in their team of 10, it could be a big deal and if they’ve assumed they will get a team of 12 on game day, that could come back to bite them.
I don’t have an issue with the Swifts not having anWD specialist. If they want Moore to play WD then they need to back her in. Or if it is Fraser then back her in. I know there is quite a bit of love for Craig on here but for me she was the Swifts’ problem this year.
Fraser deserves a contract.
To anetballcrazy1 Hay was always a WD / C going through the NSW pathways. Fitzgerald / Giants have converted her to a WA.
I agree the squad sizes. It massively impacts squad balance. If they are retained at 12 then Swifts can sign the best young WD in NSW and have her in the squad on game day. They aren’t more worthy of a contract than Fraser. The financial differential between being a TP and getting a base $30k contract is massive. I feel that Vixens will be in the same
Boat as Swifts re squad balance as Smith is clearly ready for a contract. Hopefully common sense prevails and for the betterment of Australian netball 2 TPs can be added to the list for each game.- This reply was modified 3 years, 5 months ago by Tully.
Toni Andersen would be an ideal TP if they can get her from Giants.
Realistically, Turner and Moore at WD are stronger than any of the other NSW options available, so I understand the logic of rewarding Fraser. It’s important to keep her in the program for the longer term. I personally prefer Hadley in C but she is serviceable at WD against the faster WAs. I think the Swifts really need to focus on developing Turner and Moore at WD though, they’ve both shown potential playing there before but seem a bit uncomfortable at times reading the WA movements. Look how well Eddy, Burger and Rore have transitioned into the role, there’s no reason these girls can’t do the same. I like Craig as an impact player but with squads of 10 I just don’t think she’s really shown that she deserves it more than the other girls unfortunately.
Great faith and loyalty shown by Briony to retain nearly the same team apart from Craig. still concerned about the WD Position. If squad sizes are increased would suspect Craig would be there.
I think Craig will be in the squad if teams are extended. With teams like fever and lightning, even if the teams were extended they already decided they didn’t want eagland or ALJ. Same with tbirds and shimmin. With the swifts, they haven’t released anything about Craig leaving, they just said that they won’t be making any further announcements until the announcement of the extended squads and whether or not they’ll stay.

This is very exciting for both the Swifts and O’Shannassy. I rate her much higher than Styles, and between her and the three contracted defenders I think the Swifts will have a much stronger unit next year compared to what they had this year. I wonder who the last training partner will be, they don’t really need another attacking midcourter or a shooter so I’d be tempted to pick another defensive midcourter.
Delighted to announce that former @AdelaideTBirds midcourter Emily Burgess will join our senior playing setup as a Training Partner for @SuperNetball 2021.
