Kayla the part time player, no trials needed. How lucky š
Such an interesting watch! I think it made clear what players like Metuarau need to do more of to get selected, and a really good justification of the midcourt shake up. I hope this gives Winders the push to clean up her game
The video was reassuring to show there was some method to the madness. Jury at WD being the most interesting curve ball, with Souness flagged as a great change up at C.
Are the Ferns three deep in every position?
GS: Nweke/Wilson/Mes/TPSR
GA: Mes/TPSR/Wilson
WA: Crampton/Saunders/Souness/Mes
C: Saunders/Souness/Heffernan
WD: Heffernan/Johnson/Saunders?/Jury?
GD: Karaka/Johnson/Jury/Fitzpatrick
GK: Jury/Fitzpatrick/KarakaStill think this team is a lot more versatile swapping Saunders for Gordon.
So who is the starting WD? Heffernan?
Well that leaves me with more confidence in this selected team after watching Noels lay down the thinking behind it. It’s quite brilliant when so many spine players are out this round. It was either choose the best individuals, or choose the best team for her vision.
As Noels was talking about accuracy and volume 40+. I couldn’t help but to think about Dunn. I’m glad she is working on herself and gunning for the World Cup team. I believe she will be our wild card up the sleeve when fully fit.
Defensively I can see why Manu’a wasn’t selected based on the importance of the zone. She’s such a great man on man player. She really rattled the GAs of NZ.
Roll on Cadbury series. Let’s see some tight competition to really prep our girls for Birmingham.
Manua will be valuable as a TP for the Ferns attack end.
@NZChampion I agree about Dunn! That was my first thoughts too.
I agree that Manuāa man-on style rattled our GAs. But it wonāt rattle a Steph Wood, Bueta or a Housby. They play consistently against that style week-in/out in the SSN, and against players who do it better.
Looking forward to seeing how this all unfolds!
@Wewood I had to do some investigating as I too was shocked there was no Maddy or Poi in the teams. I did find out at least one of them will be in the mixed team so perhaps both of them will end up there? Alongside a couple of Australians too.
Nolene talks a good game but I’m sure she would have had a similar plan against England in the home series and for the Quad cup too and that didn’t fare too well.
I’m reserving judgement for the Cadbury Series. If they can beat the men then my expectations for the Comm games will go up ten fold. I didn’t realise the Men’s coach was a local from way back in the day. I was told he coached one of the teams here to a few titles then moved away and coach rep teams to national titles all the while playing himself and he is currently the Singapore women’s head coach. So he seems to have credentials. All the teams sound like they could give the Ferns a good run for their money, I look forward to it.
Invitation teams always remind me of the Worlds team that beat Aussie and NZ that was an exciting series. Wish that type of series would happen again, just something different.
What a video. I just love DNT! There is ALWAYS sound reasoning behind her decisions and I think all who reacted negatively lost a little faith too early. She is a strategic mastermind and Iām yet to see her be out-coached on game day. Short of getting out there and playing herself I really think she consistently does absolutely everything within her control to put the ferns in the best position to win. As an Aussie I would love to have her!
Thats another very interesting insight into the selection process and gives the answer as to why Johnson was selected over other WD. Noels sounds convinced that Temu will hit the fitness standards so she must be very close and imo she was certainly the inform GD of the ANZ but she stands firm on the standard must be met. Given there is no other defender in the reserves and it was indicated that Temu and MRB were the travelling reserves, in one article I read, I wonder if she doesn’t meet them then so they go to NZA for a back up or just not take an extra defender.
Staffy pretty much asked the questions we’ve all been asking.
