    <<Perhaps Sulu for captain?>>

I think she’s the obvious choice now Watson is out. She was already a strong contender for the position. Burger for VC.

Toeava played one game for the Ferns (2018). I don’t think it was a full game either. At that time, as a player, I felt she was not fit enough and not well balanced when she passed. She also was pretty shy and no real experience. This season she has matured immensely however as mentioned above she does have patches where she just chucks the ball away. She now leads the mid court whereas before she was too shy to say boo.
I do think Noels is looking for leadership in all areas/positions on court. I think this is where Dunn has failed to stand up this season too. Pulse really needed a leader in the shooting circle but it wasn’t her.

@al_ex agree with you on Dunn there. She played pretty well and consistently all season. Couldnt have done much more. The fitness card can’t be used by Taurua if Nweke is in the mix as well. Harsh treatment for Dunn. She should see if she can get an ssn contract. She’s at least as good as Potgeiter.
Interesting that the reason given for Mes not being in the squad is rehab. She played nearly a full game in the Anz final.

I personally think the Ferns will struggle against the Diamonds this time round. Especially without Ekenasio who has that X factor. I guess it’s not even sure if games will go ahead with the state of COVID in Oz. I suppose the games will just all end up on nz soil if Covid isn’t under control in Oz come October.

I’m not sure why everyone doubts Nwekes fitness. She meets the targets set. She is very very fit.

Mes – has battled with both achilles since a couple of weeks into the season. She spends a huge amount of time with both ankles wrapped in ice after trainings.

Not sure the games will go ahead either – Diamonds are unlikely to get in unless they manage to book isolation slots for the same reason given to the NRL players this week by the PM. It’s also going to be very difficult for the Diamonds Squad to get together over in Australia for trainings unless they form a hub very soon and do their isolation first.

Gee, to play GA, Wilson would need to have improved a heck of a lot on the last few games where Hume was doing all of the work AND all of the scoring.

Am I right in thinking they’ve selected almost 3 exactly from each ANZ team?
So excited to see Nweke and Heffernan named!
Was expecting Gordon and Kersten to be dropped so will be interesting to see how they perform.

It was announced on Sunday that Dunn will be the captain of the Southland Storm 3×3 basketball team to play in October this year.

Yeah Maryann, am glad Bailey rang Noels a week ago and called time. Getting Mystics to GF was all she cared about, deserves a rest. As for Peta and Noels selection, good on Peta, shes worked damn hard all year and doesn’t deserve the negative comments. Don’t think we need to doubt Noels knowledge or choice of selection, shes more than proven what she can do to a team. The doors still open for Kimi but its up to Kimi now. I just hope Maia comes right and the pressure and critics don’t get to her.

Diamonds will get in NZ, once the MIQ spaces are cleared out by the NZ Olympic people, which will be in about 12 days time.
Then those hotels in Christchurch will be available, just like every other time a sports team came to NZ, last year and this year.

The MIQ website is currently booked out until November but it does say new bookings are released periodically.

Netball NZ are good at being prepared – they sorted all the MIQ stuff for Con Cup earlier in the year so suspect Jennie Wylie and crew are on it.

However, I wonder who stumps up for the full team plus staff. 20-25 people at 3k a pop is a decent additional expense.

Surely Aus responsible for Diamonds costs and NZ responsible for Ferns?

Noeline just confirmed that all players in the squad made the fitness requirement on inside netball. That’s fantastic! Grace and Toeava admitted its not their strong point, but stood up and met the requirements. So she’s proud of them for that.

Noels is going for gold at CWGs. She makes no mistake about that. Eke will definitely be back for CWGs and the camps. Hallelujah!

Poi and Souness. Specialist athletes need to nail their position. Needs to work on consistency throughout a game and quarters. They still have a foot in the door. They need to work on themselves to get in.

Captain will be chosen by Noels instead of team votes this year.

    I’m picking Sulu for captain
As for Poi not getting selected, there were clear issues with the Tactix attack at times so fair that Noels is wanting to see better consistency

Sulu seems the obvious choice for captain and would definitely be my pick. However, I know it’s a long shot, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Burger take on the role. I know she’s not a captain of her franchise team, but shes a definite starter. IMO no one comes near her in the GD position, she totally owns that. And I thought she spoke well whenever getting interviewed.
