One the eve of Noeline and Debbie taking over the coaching reins….
I first started following netball when PIC were dominant in the Coca-Cola Cup (the NZ club league) in the 1990s.
The PIC team of 1996 was a special side – so much talent packed into one club team, and who most went on the bigger things:
Bernice Mene – Silver Fern captain
Noeline Taurua-Barnett – Silver Fern, Silver Fern coach, Magic and Lightning Coach
Tanya Dearns (nee Cox) – Silver Fern, Pulse Coach
Francis Solia – Samoan captain, Samoan coach
Gail Parata – Silver Fern, Pulse assistant coach, Scottish coach
Julie Dawson (nee Seymour) – Silver Fern captain, Tactix assistant coach
Debbie Fuller (nee Matoe) – Silver Fern, Mystics Coach, Silver Ferns assistant coach
Leilani Read – Silver Fern and Samoan international. Tragically passed away at 25 from a brain hemorrhage
This side was coached by none other than Wai!
