Congratulations Romelda.
And now an exciting opportunity presents for Wallam to show what she can do. It will be fun to watch Bueta and Wallam together.
And a special mention to the Firebirds for now having the only two Indigenous players in the SSN.
Hmmm, not so fast.
Firebirds reschedule Mackay trip to support flood-impacted netball associations
Ian, are you allowed to give us the gist of what the article says?
You should be able to read that one, but never mind, here is the latest from the Firebirds…

Queensland Firebirds Club Statement
04 MAR 2022Queensland Firebirds CEO Kate Davies has issued the following statement in relation to recent media reports.
As a club we have a duty of care to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our players and staff and to uphold Suncorp Super Netball competition rules.
With the approval of Romelda, the Club can now provide additional information around Romelda’s pregnancy announcement and the process of contracting a replacement player.
The club can confirm that we will not be contracting Maria Folau.
When the club has officially signed its replacement for Romelda we will announce the decision accordingly.
Romelda’s baby news is brilliant, and the club has been fully supportive of her playing right through until she’s ready to step away.
Heading into the 2022 season, Romelda is sitting on 198 games and is intending to make it to her 200th milestone.
Unfortunately, she has been experiencing severe illness and disruptions to her ability to complete her training loads.
Romelda was fully intending to play at Team Girls Cup, but due to Covid affected complications, particularly around dehydration, it was deemed unsafe, seeing her ruled unavailable.
Romelda is still fully contracted as part of our 10, and hence the club has no ability or desire to name a replacement until she formally withdraws from the team.
The club has been completely transparent to the playing group about the recruitment discussions and will continue to do so right up until that replacement is required and signed.
Just read aitken is gonna play whilst pregnant, so that means no to Folau and also no to Wallam getting a playing spot, maybe a training partner and possible bring in if aitken gets to pregnant
They definitely backtracked on the whole Folau thing.
Sorry to hear Aiken is struggling. Interesting that the initial media announcement made everyone assume that due to her pregnancy she would sit out the season. Can’t remember if that was stated or if we just assumed.
Romelda must have announced her pregnancy quite early? Whilst unusual it is up to her. The season is still another 4 weeks away.
There is a pregnancy policy but I can’t recall what it details specifically. It came in during CBT days when there was a pregnant player that wanted to play. I believe it gives guidelines as to when to stop playing.
I stopped after the first trimester after talking with my OB but I am far from an elite athlete obviously. Every pregnancy and Mum is different.
Karaka played for Mystics for full season although through the final 3-4 games she only played one full game – I think it was one of the last two she was on all four quarters by memory. Baby was early by a few weeks but I think she would have been close to 5 months pregnant in the final game.
Every player is different and I imagine how they carry has a lot to do with it. Certainly how they feel is a major.Queensland Firebirds confirm Romelda Aiken-George will not play in 2022, due to pregnancy.
The star shooter informed her teammates of the decision on the weekend.
