If you want to believe that a woman of colour can comfortably stand back silently as her peers are being treated unjustly.. then one must either question her character, or question how she too is being treated or the treatment she swallows in order to keep her job in such an environment. helps that she’s 7 foot haha

Wonder if she would come back to Victoria? Vacancy at Collingwood after all
If she does move to another club then I would assume it wasn’t her choice to leave Firebirds.
Tully I think you’re right it’s Mi Mi v Gardner and IMO Gardner had a better season. After all the indigenous round controversy it won’t look good if MiMi gets dropped.
MiMi to Lightning would be a very good move, Scherian hasn’t cut it there for me this season. Are TBirds an option now that Pitman has been released? I think she will do well there too.
Jencke at Collingwood would be interesting.
I did have a theory that if they failed to make the final,
– Jencke would be replaced by LA
– Aiken would retire
– and Cbass would join Firebirds
hmm could that still happen? Cbass seems committed to the Magic nowI hate to say it but our “sipping” colleague maybe onto something. Eke sat on the bench for 4 years and as I recall Friday didn’t get to play during her first contracted season. Wasn’t Jencke in charge during these time?
Aitken obviously wanted some support regarding the BLM issue which was closely followed by the indigenous round incident, all of which were under Jencke’s watch… it doesn’t look good.
I have no idea what has gone on at Firebirds, but I could see some other explanations too:
– Jencke as a coach over the years has tended to make very few changes to her line up and often the bench would stay on the bench for most of the season, perhaps with one or two exceptions. I often thought this was to FB detriment, but she has also enjoyed a lot of success. This season has really forced something different with the condensed nature and the supershot, as well as the last few seasons the team not being successful.
– I also seems plausible that behind the scenes Jencke being both mother and coach is difficult. IF (and I emphasise the IF) it is her decision to go, perhaps she feels it is time to give her daughter space, take away accusations of favouritism or something like that.
– Perhaps there are personal circumstances that we are not aware of?Having said all of that listening in full to the Beryl Friday interview and then watching the Mi Mi debacle it sounds like the FB environment has been awful for indigenous players and as the coach she has to take responsibility.
Also, I haven’t been following as closely this season as usual – what happened with Aiken and BLM?
I do not understand all this talk about supposed “favoritism” regarding Macy Gardner.
She has shown herself to be a very good young player contributing well to the team when she has taken the court. And.. she has not actually had very much court time this season.
As for Jemma MiMi and Beryl Friday; well Jemma (of whom I am quite a fan) started the season well but finished badly. She was definitely not starting 7 material in the backend of the season. I have no problem with Jenke’s decision, I do think all other teams maybe need to lift their game regarding inclusion. I also hope that Jemma came through all the furore surrounding that week well mentally and emotionally.
Beryl Friday; I have not listened to her interview, but as an observer and FB member/supporter, whilst she was a big favourite of us FB fans, whenever she did take the court (and she DID get game time) I found her performance to be underwhelming.
Can anyone tell us how she performed when she played in the UK? And is she still contracted there?
Friday played for Team Bath. From the matches I could watch she didn’t have a huge amount of court time. Kim Commane was also playing for Bath and you can only have one import in each third on at a time so they could never play together. Commane seemed to be the preferred GS. She had more court time than she did in Australia and she seemed to do some good things, but she certainly didn’t set the world fire. I am not aware of her still being contracted there.
With respect to Gardner, I think most posters on here agree with you that she has deserved the time that she has received on court and has performed well. It is more that whenever your parent is the coach there will always be a perception of bias. I am sure that whatever anyone says having a parent as your coach in a professional sport has extra challenges.
As for Friday, we will never know, but perhaps she would have thrived at FB if they did a better job at understanding their indigenous athletes.
With Mi Mi it wasn’t just the initial decision, it was also how it was handled afterwards.
FiB – it was nothing big. Aitken said she had experienced some racism when she first come to Australia. She had hoped/thought SSN/netball would have commented or made a gesture.
(reading between the lines I’m guessing she wanted to take a knee)Charles – Friday’s playing for the Wildcats in the sapphire series. I know she got game time in the UK not sure of the whole story but in her interview she reveals that her mum is ill.
Sadly, Mimi spent a lot of time on my FN bench as well

Jinxibo & Fib, Thanks for the info re Beryl. I have not paid as much attention to my netball the last 2 years as I would like.
