Dee Leggatt from Northern Stars will take on the team manager role.

At first glance, this team seems very unbalanced. All the shooters are GS/GA, with maybe the exception with Wilson, although she is certainly capable of playing GA. In the midcourt, they have two specialist WA’s in Crampton and Souness, and two WA/C’s in Saunders and Poi. Which means Burger, but more likely MSB, will be playing WD, which leaves not a lot of flexibility at the back with Karaka and Watson. I think the will struggle defensively against Jamaica compared to England and South Africa.

Sokolich-Beatson and Burger is solid WD cover I think. Both are fantastic in WD. With Folau, Langman and Rore out I think this would be the team I’d pick too. Bit of pressure on Jane Watson to perform because there’s not a lot of GK depth.

Any guesses on captain? Ekenasio or Watson seem likely candidates. Sokolich-Beatson is also a great leader but is new to the Ferns environment.

Im not surprised at all by the selection of the team. NT likes to stick to a formula of players.

With Langman on sabbatical, we need as many options as possible in the WA and C positions.

I really pleased to see the ‘new wave’ of players getting a chance to develop internationally.

I’d go Watson for captain. I’m not sold on shooters holding Captains role as they have a pile of pressure on shooting without having to analyse the game while its going on. Watsons very determined and a good Captain for Mystics.

I wasn’t sure if S-R would get in based on Super Club. I wish she would consistently show the performance we know she is capable of.

Definitely loving the look of the team, the time is now to begin to develop the new wave of players for the next world cup.

Agree Maryann, I’d go Watson for captain as well. Ekenasio for vice.

oops my mistake – Watson is a good captain for Tactix. Lol my two favourite teams and I can’t even get that right.

I would say Saunders for captain only because she’s the oldest lol.

Defensively looks very speedy and they will have to use that against their opponents. I thought maybe Sulu might get a go. But I guess we can’t have 3 Mystics defenders, it just wouldn’t seem right lol.

Poi, Wilson and Souness will benefit hugely from this tournament. Whether they get court time is another story. Because if the WC was anything to go by, it’s going to be very tight.

It’s going to be very strange not seeing Australia in the mix. I was about to ask what their lineup will be.

Maria, you will be hard to replace. GOAT.

Langman and Rore deserve a break, but so much experience gone!

Great to see Poi and Souness included. Wilson is the obvious next in line.

Not taking Nweke or Dunn as training partners is confusing. Need to get that youth up to standard.

NZ will do fine against Eng and SA, but that defence line will struggle with the height of Fowler and Nelson (Aiken is out of Nations Cup)

Overall, young team and a very exciting midcourt!!!!

                          Watson for Captain
