Development squad:
Kate Burley
Georgia Heffernan
Claire Kersten
Kristiana Manu’a
Bailey Mes
Tiana Metuarau
Kimiora Poi
Peta Toeava
Sam WindersThey need to change the name of the development squad. Some of them are VERY experienced and surely don’t need to do too much “developing”?
Clearly though if they aren’t in the squad they do have areas of their game to work on?
Development is a good thing. For us health professionals (and I assume many other professionals) we have to prove we have done professional development each year, no matter your years of practise or perceived level of expertiseMes dropped, Gordon back as Silver Ferns named for rest of 2022

Silver Ferns captain Gina Crampton granted sabbatical for remainder of 2022
So good to have Watson and Ekeansio back! Think Temu will help to as during the com.games it seemed the only valid GD was Karaka…then again hopefully Burger is recovering quickly!
2 experienced WAs now out, but guess they have the option of Gordon, Mila RB or Souness- This reply was modified 2 years, 7 months ago by RMB.
Assume comments about players outside the two squads still being in the mix is a reference to Dunn? I haven’t watched any Tauihi basketball but does anyone know if she’s been in good form in that comp?
Re remainder of 2022 – do we know if Watson or Burger are available? If not, the playing squad picks itself, at least for the Taini Jamison Trophy.
Ekenasio, Nweke, Selby-Rickit, Wilson
Gordon, Heffernan, MRB, Souness
Fitzpatrick, Johnson, Jury, Karaka Temu (13)Excited for the midcourt – Souness will be taking on a leadership role, Heff to build on CWG and Gordon and MRB to shwo what they’ve got.
Ekenasio looks very fit from her Insta.
Hope Temu gets a debut.
WeWood, I haven’t seen Dunn on court in the Basketball. Not even sure if she playing still. I only look at the BB to see if she there.
I’ve only watched one game with Dunn playing. IMO the pace was a lot slower than netball and so much subbing that a player was lucky to get more than 5mins on court at any one time. Re Burger, she’s just returned from South Africa and has jumped in the pool to start fitness. She’s not long out of the moon boot. I think she’s out for the rest of the year.
Yes Karin was aiming for fast 5, but don’t think that will happen, I guess the ANZ will start early next year again, so best take the rest year off.
Did they have another set of trials?
@Netballfan! – no to another set of trials. In fact most of the Silver Ferns are only just beginning to return to NZ having had, looking at their instagrams, an amazing time overseas in the likes of Italy, Santorini, Mykonos. In saying that they appear to have been doing some quite rigorous fitness – I’m guessing that these squads are based on performance since the last trials.
With Gina taking some leave, it almost guarantees Meel’s return as Captain. I don’t see them choosing another captain in as many years- and vc Sulu was benched in the bronze final, and the team was seamless.
Both Jane and certainly Karin are uncertain. Which leaves the door open for Temu, and potentially Manu’a. The midcourt is exciting. Noel’s sometimes relies on experience too much which has limited the amount of form players getting an opportunity. Hopefully this changes things.
