CB98 I don’t rate Thirlby, so no I don’t think she’s learnt from the last series that we need more specialist WA.
Pity England didn’t pay for Burgess to be out there as an umpire. Would have been much fairer, and useful for the Ferns.
I still don’t understand the selection of Kersten, instead of Poi.
Ferns defence was good, shooting pretty good. Mid court very average.Anyone else notice that for a lot of the 4th qtr, that with the exception of Malcom and Guthrie it was the England U21 WYC 2017 squad?
Both Roses and Ferns U21 WYC 2017 players are getting international court time now. Diamonds…. Not so much. Some aren’t even getting SSN court time.
Australia have Austin, JLP and Antiss from the WYC. They have their youth coming through.
I’m just re-watching the game, I have to admit I thought the losing margin would be bigger.
Quashie – I do believe this is her first start and full game for the Roses, usually she comes on as a sub. So from that point of view she did well. Personally, I don’t think she moved forward since her debut. I just hope she takes this games as her baseline and moves forward. She could learn a lot from Watson and Sulu.
Williams – started slowly but really built into the game.
SDL – OMG this was such an improvement from the South Africa tests. I do worry about her shooting style, anyone remember Sophia Fenwick? (yes the tactix defender) she had the same action.
Corbin – I like her better at GS, less options to give the ball away.
Cardwell – yep, you’ve all said it, she’s not a natural GA but her shooting was solid
Malcolm – i do not like her at WA, she doesn’t bring anything to that position. It really showed when Burger came on in the second quarter.
Serena – Don’t forget she hasn’t played since the WC 2019 so she will be below par.
The Ferns,
Wilson, Winders, Watson, Eke WOW.
Sulu F***ing WOW (sorry) MVP well deserved.
Saunders never stand out but she’s always steady
Kersten seemed a little flat to me, usually she flys around the effortlessly but today she looked to be working really hard. I suppose you could put that down to the Roses.
Glasgow, Eddy and O’brien have overcome serious injuries since the last WYC which has hindered their development. And players that didn’t make the team but were reserves are now in the Diamonds squad in Garbin and Jenner.

Yes Ian you are right – Guthrie probably will hit 100 caps on Friday in the second test.
We are so happy to have @EnglandNetball with us here in New Zealand. Thank you for all the hard work you've put in behind the scenes to make this series happen ❤️ pic.twitter.com/PydcCIa8oW

FYI Ama Agbeze is also there, not saying very much. I wonder if she’s come with the team and quarantined specifically as a commentator, but perhaps also as a mentor? Or assistant coach??
Ama has been in NZ for at least a month. From memory she married a Kiwi so it may be a more permanent move?

I dont see what the problem with SDL shooting action is. In my eyes it’s very similar to Thwaites.
Agreed BB, I think SDL’s action is fine – and it was definitely working!
Ama IS married to a Kiwi, so I’m guessing she’s back home with him.
As for GB as an umpire, he would have had to do iso to get there and then back again when returning to the UK, and has a young family, so I doubt that’s an option for him.
Thought Thirlby’s tactics worked fine – don’t forget this is a VERY young team, with very limited international experience compared with what we’re used to with TN. Give the woman a chance!
