My preferred squad:
Nweke, Wilson, Ekenasio, Selby-Rickett
Crampton, Toeava, Heffernan, Mila-R-B,
Sokolich-Beatson, Burger, Watson, Jury
Reserves: Karaka, Souness, GordonWho i think will get named:
Nweke, Wilson, Ekenasio, Selby-Rickett*
Crampton, Heffernan, Souness, Toeava**
Karaka, Burger, Watson, Jury
Reserves: ***Metuarau, Gordon, Sockolich-Beatson*My rationale for not being brave and taking 3 shooters is still the memory of 2014 CWG – i just don’t think they’ll risk it.
**My rationale for taking two WA’s in the 12 is that previous squads have had a GA like Mes who could slide across to over WA. without that, having only Crampton would actually leave us very exposed in the attacking midcourt.
***I think Noels will want reserves to train with that mirror international styles – Tiana reminds me of Beckford – short and jumps into the circle, while Gordon’s man-on style replicates Aussie best. Sockolich-beatson was cover for Rore in 2019 and did a very selfless job very well from all reports, so Noel’s can trust her to do that again.Cant wait!
Interesting about Toeava, some of the experts have her in their team and some don’t.
Adine Wilson, Anna Stanley and Temepara have her. Joan Hodson, Yvonne Willering and Dion Te Whetu don’t have her.The mid court of 2019 was Rore (used only at WD), Langman (used in C), Crampton (used only as WA), and Saunders (used in WA/C. So possible the same sort of selection could happen.
Besides Crampton, the midcourt is going to be very light on SF experience. I guess it’s why I’m leaning towards taking more options in the midcourt; 3 C, 3 WD, 3 WA.
Hopefully Langman can share her craft and knowledge with the lucky players.Used to be able to guess a ferns team with ease, but the mid court is so difficult, well 2 will be.
My prediction:
Nweke, Ekanasio, Wilson, TPSR
Crampton, Heffernan, Souness, MSB
Watson, Burger, Karaka, Jury
Reserves: Metaurau, Toeava, GordonI think MSB will be there – NZ’s strongest line up is Heffernan at C and Burger at GD. That WD spot will be either MSB or Kersten. I think the fact that Watson has had some niggling injuries may just push MSB over the line.
I also do think Souness is a better/different C option as compared to Kersten.
Inside Netball – they asked YMD how she felt if they (SF) took 3 shooters and 5 middies?
@silverfern1 do you have inside knowledge about this, why you’ve brought it up a few times?I do wonder has this been brought up because England has done this? I really hope not, I’d hate to think we’re trying to copy an opposing team ??♂️
Out of curiosity, what did YMD say in answer to that question TB?
She said it could work, using Souness as back up GA. She has been training there at Pulse. YMD sounded confident in using her there.
If just 3 shooters are selected, then Maia Wilson will most likely miss out. She isn’t a GA option.
I recall in the January Quads, Ferns only selected 4 shooters once."Hands down the biggest headache for selectors would be the battle for the two remaining midcourt positions because they could have started with a list as long as eight."#SilverFerns @NetballWorldCup https://t.co/pgaN31cYfP

Would you make changes to your WC team after viewing the final?
Nope, some of the Stars didn’t shine at all. Mila outplayed by Tayla Earle.
I may have lost my marbles but does anyone ever recall seeing MSB play C? It may be that I made that up in my head because she reminds me of Kayla Cullen a little bit, with such agility and closing speed, and Cullen did play a few games at C. Just a thought for 2027… lol
