Honestly I’m most intrigued by who they are going to sign for their midcourt. If they’ve kept Petty over Pitman, I’m going to be annoyed because Petty had a pretty horrible season. Nankivell and Shadine VDM are the two players they should build their midcourt around I think. Shadine is very underated I feel, provides so much pressure up the court for her defenders behind.

Was really hoping they would sing Hodges, yea Gooden brings a different style to Horjus but I don’t rate her above Hodges. I hope Vixens approach Hodges.

I think Nankivell and Shadine will stick around and Petty was co-captain so I can’t see them dropping her even though she really didn’t have a good season.

At this point I have no clue what the Thunderbirds are doing. The loss of Pitman and Glasgow for Gooden and Petty makes no sense to me.

And I don’t think the Thunderbirds will be able to keep Guscoth and Sterling around for more than another season or possibly, two. So a real shame that they aren’t using this opportunity to put together a finals contending team. That’s hooting circle is going to be a problem, Horjus is great but inconsistent as she is new to this level and will be worked out in her second season at this level. Gooden is in the same boat and I feel like her movement is very slow.

I fear that Hodges will not get the chance she deserves in Australia, not sure if she will be picked up by anyone in SSN. She was a favorite of Dan Ryan, preferred to Glasgow, but it seems that Tania Obst has not been a fan of hers, preferring Glasgow in the U/21 national team and not really giving Hodges a go at it as Thunderbirds coach. Now it seems Horjus has trumped both Hodges and Glasgow.

Fingers crossed that Garbin is on the move to Vixens. Would much rather her over Hodges. A circle of MJ and Garbin could be formidable. One can only dream 🙂

Hodges has now been around for 5-6 years as a training partner getting regular court time at Tbirds. She also has had 2 years playing in NZ. In both cases she has started seasons with lots of court time, however for whatever reason has been unable to cement a bench space or a contract.
She is too good for “just” SA premier league, but it would appear not quite good enough for ANZ or SSN. Maybe Superleague will give her a chance?
Maybe there is something else that we don’t know?

In 2018, Hodges was the starting GA for Thunderbirds despite being an replacement player for an injured Glasgow IIRC, was playing with a young GS who had only just started playing netball, and yet was still one of the best for them that year. Unforetunately with the turnover of coach, Obsts had certain players in mind for her game plan, and Hodges just missed out. She ended up moving over to play for Stars in NZ, and was a massive part in them making the GF. Played some brilliant netball. I can’t remember the circumstances around why she wasn’t re-signed… or was it only due to covid and not being able to get into the country. She is still one the best young GA we have, and I have her on par with Austin, Dwan, Horjus.

I rate Hodges and wouldn’t mind Vixens signing her. But I don’t think it will happen. From what I hear they will have one young player (a VIC) and an experienced GA.

Gooden is underwhelming for me. I know TBirds didn’t choose her over Glasgow as Glasgow chose to leave when they wanted her but still there are other options.

Proud and Hadley re-sign for the Swifts!

Surely, either Haythornthwaite or Garbin are moving next year.

I think Haythornthwaite will go back home. She has a fiance in the UK and with no certainty as to international borders being opened again anytime soon it would be hard (after not seeing them for probably 9 months) to possibly have to wait another year. Ditto for Francis.

Will SSN release the list of uncontracted players again?

Gabby Sinclair has re-signed with Collingwood. Looks like they’ve also picked up Kalifa McCollin from Southern Steel.

Well Glasgow isn’t headed to Collingwood then!!

Come to the Vixens Sasha! Sacha and Sasha!!

Expected FB midcourt (once Cassidy announced she was leaving that is!). Wonder what Gardner will do? FB TP or head interstate?

I would like to see Nyah Allen go to Lightning. Two GAs ahead of her at Collingwood now and she would be a great change up for Lightning. Wood could swing to WA and what a mentor she could be for Allen. I can dream.

Collingwood with 4 imports!! Possibly more with two spots left…
