I wonder what Shimmin’s relationship with JWT is like?
Shimmin would complete the Collingwood line up perfectly. With the versatility of Ward they could also keep Garrett. At some point Collingwood need to look to replace Mentor and Shimmin’s best position imo is GK. But until that time they could use Shimmin in GD with Ward at WD and Braz at C. Or Ward in GD with Braz at WD and Jovic in C. They don’t need 4 pure midcourters given Jovic can play all 3 positions, Ward can play WD and Sinclair can play WA.
That would be a very versatile team.
Hmm interesting. That really could work but its a gamble. Browne has been injury-prone for the past two seasons so if she injures herself, then Collingwood could have a problem
I think that might be more a reference to a lot of the work she does in the wider community with netball because she mentions that she still wants to play. But you may be right as she really has built a life in SA with her partner and family and may not want to leave.
Nine years at the Thunderbirds and this is how it ends, what a shame. The way she speaks in her peor is so similar to Pitman, that they had something special they were building towards and now they’ve just been dropped.
I can’t see Thunderbirds making finals next year with the way their signings have gone so far. Hope Shimmin is picked up elsewhere and has a blinder of a season.Interesting comments on her post by Pitman and Bell who are pretty clear in saying that the Thunderbirds are making a big mistake…
I would love to see Shimmin in VNSL with Rhinos playing with Dan Ryan. If she’s wanting selection for the roses again I think playing in the national comp and building connections and understandings on and off court with the girls over there like Guthrie Williams etc will really help.
What is happening at Thunderbirds, so much experience going, Should they have just changed the coach?
Changing the coach would be equally bad. We’ve been through four coaches in five-six years. I just don’t get what they think they will achieve by dropping these experienced players, they can’t seem to get the right balance. On season there are too many players nearing the end of their playing days and the next they’ve chosen a team that is just way too inexperienced
I think the McCollin signing is a really smart one. I thought she would perfectly complete the Vixens line up, but they really like to reward their pathway so it felt unlikely they’d go for two import shooters. She was great in NZL, was pretty unlucky that she had to play with five different inexperienced shooters and run the goal circle from GS for half the season. She’s a class above the available Australian GA options in my opinion. Allen really needs to work on her movement and playmaking skills if she wants to be a GA option, so I don’t think it’s the worst thing if she has to go back to a TP contract. I probably still would have taken her over Sinclair, but there are better shooters in Australia who may not get contracts.
Tough to see Gardner get dropped but it’s probably the right decision. Realistically, she’s the only one of the four signed midcourters who would stay in the Firebirds program without a contract. I would love to see her hop over to Lightning, maybe she will feel more comfortable doing so after everything that’s happened with Jencke.
Gardner could be great at Lightning! If Langman and Scherian are playing in 2021 it would be great to have them Mentor her and have her slowly increase court time.
Shimmin not getting a contract really doesn’t make sense. I would say their defence end will be an issue in the future? Sterling clearly isn’t happy in Australia and has said many times she doesn’t like it. Also Kate is only 28 and has plenty more seasons in her. I think she did amazing off the bench this year. Unless they have an amazing young defender we don’t know about it seems strange to drop her? They could have used her experience for at least 3 more seasons?? As an SA girl she would be more likely to stick around then Sterling or Guscoth?
What is going on with Thunderbirds management? We all know they need to get rid of Petty and that should have been the only change this year 🤦🏻♀️McCollin is a great signing. But questions need to be asked, is there not a young Australian shooter able to step up? 2 imports in the circle at Magpies, not ideal for development of Australian netball.
Tbirds letting Pitman and Shimmin go. A lot of experience gone, but I wonder if they have some good signings coming.
Collingwood now have 4 imports. 2 at either end. There is Australian talent. Who thought Dwan would be as good as she was this year? They just need a chance.
I firmly believe that Nyah Allen is good enough for a contract. Of course she has work to do on her game but I firmly believe she would step up to this level. Lightning (where her sister is a TP) or Vixens could be good matches for her if she does stay as a TP. Sophie Dwyer is also good enough, I expect she will get a Giants contract.

Thunderbirds are making me nervous. I truely believe that Sterling will leave at the end of 2021 and potentially Guscoth as well as both are imports. This is going to be a problem if they don’t have Shimmin because they’ll have to start all over again?!
The fact that they let Shimmin go indicates to me that Sterling wants to stay for 2021, and probably further. I really hope Thunderbirds let Shimmin know a lot early though, because it would be hard to find a spot at another club at this point in the trading season.
