I hope the Tbirds have a big signing in the works or something, because this seems like a massive mistake. The Pitman/Horjus combo in attack was by far the best for the Tbirds this year, and it seemed like the attack was slower and had to work much harder every time either one of them went off. Even if they’re focusing on developing and signing SA talent, surely it would have helped to keep Pitman on as the senior player in the midcourt and as a back up option for when they were struggling?
I would have understood this decision earlier when they had strong WA options like Msomi who weren’t getting court time but given how well Pitman has been this year I’m very surprised. I guess Horjus is their WA project. It’ll be interesting to see what shooters they have to play with next year, I personally think Glasgow should hit the road but maybe they’ll keep her and work hard in the off season to develop her GA play? Gooden?
I hope if Horjus moves to WA, it opens up a spot for Hodges. I know people think Glasgow should play GA but I think she’s a great at shooter where she sets up and creates space for her GA and middies then becomes the focal point when needed. Her screening ability and body strength is very underrated especially given shes a smaller more mobile shooter. If shes going to be stuck behind Potgeiter she needs to go to Collingwood.
This reminds me of the Medhurst situation at Fever. Stanton wasn’t happy sitting on the bench so she got her bestie in Bruce to suggest that she should leave. I feel like someone at the club (one of the players) isn’t happy with the amount of court time she’s getting so they put a tip in to get rid of her.
I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am. She’s been one of their best players this season. I just hope that they’re dropping her in order to bring through some SA talent, otherwise it’s a strange decision.
I feel like she could move to Lightning – they need a WA and Scherian hasn’t had the best season at all. Fever could also be on the cards since Colyer is out for a year. Magpies also.
Yes I assume this is Langman’s last season so a WA spot could open up at Lightning with Scherian moving to C.
Wow GREENASGXLD, that is a nasty assumption you are making there where is the proof?
N
I probably should’ve said that it was a rumour but I believe it tbh, because why else would you bin off one of your best players like that??
The Stanton and Bruce story is partially true, at least from what I heard. Although it wasn’t only about court time, I think there were cultural and personality issues as well. People are naive if they think Stanton was the only one who wasn’t happy with Medhurst. I doubt that Pitman is in this position though, because she seems to really have the support of the playing group as a whole and to be honest she isn’t really taking anyone’s position. They only have one real WA. It seems like they want to promote the local talent and look to the future, which as Tully said is something that people have been calling for and it’s great to see them actually try and keep the SA talent.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Pitman at Giants, she did play under Fitzgerald in her Swifts days.
Shocked by Chelsea being released by Thunderbird, Where will she go? In regards to Haythornwaite hope that she stays in Australia, move back to the UK won’t help her game, If she doesn’t stay with the Swifts maybe move to the Thunderbirds? Knows the coach from England team
If Haythornthwaite doesn’t get re-signed at the Swifts and wants to stay in Australia surely she’ll go to Fever. They could use her at WA and GA to be honest. Lightning could be an option as well.
We don’t need another import. If we’re dropping our captain for local talent, then fine, even if they’re no ready, ok we will make do. But to drop her and then replace her with Haythornthwhaite? No that’s makes no sense
I’m not surprised by this at all. I think Pitman is very overrated and has a very high turnover count and has been like this for a number of years. I will say, she has been better this year, but there has still been several games this year where I have wanted to see her replaced due to her high turnover count.
Just putting it out there but I have a strong feeling that Maddy Proud might be returning home. It would be a very smart move for both parties as it means Maddy wouldn’t be fighting for court time like she does at Swifts, and Thunderbirds get a fantastic player and leader back in the midcourt…… fingers crossed!
Proud is the only replacement for Pitman that I would actually be okay with but she seems to love living over in Sydney
Getting Maddy Proud back in Adelaide would be awesome!! She seems pretty happy at the Swifts though, but maybe she misses home a little?
It would be interesting if Proud returned. It would be a huge loss for the Swifts. I can’t imagine why she would unless she is really homesick, the Swifts have made her into the player she is, she’s the captain and she seems very close with the girls there.
