Isn’t this what nearly happened to Geva Mentor? Lightning started negotiations by mentioning her age and she wasnt happy with that so went looking elsewhere. I thought it was quite surprising giving NT was recruiting old players back into the Ferns.
We just don’t know what happened in negotiations but it would be a huge mistake if they literally said they’re not renewing and that was it. Even if they don’t think she’s a starting 7 player anymore it’s stupid not to have her on the bench for 2021.
I thought Mentor just moved to Collingwood because she wanted to be back in Melbourne. I know she left the Vixens because they wanted to give her a one year contract and transition Emily Mannix into the 7.
Id be pretty upset as a Swifts fan if Proud went back to Adelaide, her and Hadley are such a good combination and I was hoping to see it brought to international level too.
I’d be gutted if Proud went back to SA – I love watching her both on and off court at the Swifts and they really do seem to have a great culture! The only silver lining would be if Haythornthwaite got to remain at Swifts as for the first half of the season, her and Hadley were easily the best midcourt line. It would also give Fraser a contract I’d hope. Still would be gutted though!
NO Geva Loved Lightning & The Sunny Coast
She left because they felt she was ‘getting on’ in age and to start with just offered her 1yr contract but later changed it to 2 years but the damage was done.
Also at the time Geva knew NT was only going to stay for 1 more year.
There were a few other issues which Lightning weren’t prepared to address.Magpies offered her what she was looking for so that’s why she returned to Melbourne.

🏴🌹 FanIf Nat H is going back to UK then surely Proud will stay at Swifts?
Pitman could do well at Fever or Lightning. I don’t think I’d want her at Giants as Maddie Hay has turned into a very good WA and I’d hate to see her bench sit next year
If Bassett does leave Giants surely it will be Harten, Austin, Hay front line for themNat H’s movements wouldn’t really affect Proud’s decision that much in my opinion. It’s not like Haythornthwaite has kept Proud off the court now that she’s back in form. If that move does happen surely she just wants to be closer to family and friends. Although I’d be really disappointed if Proud left, it would be great to see Fraser get a real go at the starting bib.
Not really sure why on earth Proud would leave the Swifts (who she is captain of and she really seems to love it there) to go back to Adelaide???
Think Maddy Proud should stay at the Swifts where she is clearly loved. natalie Haythornwaite now should not return to the UK, get an Australian club quickly. She has done well but maybe move to the Giants
Why on earth would Haythornthwaite choose to move back to VNSL? Makes no sense to me.
Rumour has it she has signed for Leeds Rhinos Netball in uk. For me suncorp is the best and that is where she should be. With what is happening in uk at the moment with netball not being played I would advise her to stay in Australia.
I remember in a players voice article she said the plan was always to return to the UK after 2019 but signed on for 2020 since she felt like due to her injury she didn’t give what she wanted to in the SSN season. That was at the end of last year so she could well want to stay on next year but I think she wants to live with her fiance and be close with family.
With what is going on in the UK at the moment hopefully she has signed on for another year. Suncorp is miles better than VNSL and she has improved massively
Know that Helen Housby is under contract for another year but what about Sam Wallace.Wallace will be off contract. I could be wrong but I think Housby is the only one locked in for next year. I would expect (or at least hope) that nearly everyone would remain. The only contractual change I’d like to see from the Swifts is Fraser for Haythornthwaite and maybe another WD for Halpin although I don’t think that’s as important. I think there will be less movement generally this year because of COVID, especially to and from NSW and Victoria.
Does the Swifts really need Nat H?
Fraser is a NSW junior and more than ready for a contract. -
