Can’t say I’m surprised about Glasgow, hopefully she can go to Vixens and work on her GA game with Kumwenda!
I thought it was very odd that Gooden was given the start over Glasgow in the final two games when Horjus was playing WA – we now know why. Glasgow would have already have made her intentions known by then as the players had conversations regarding 2021 with 4 or so rounds remaining, and so Obst would have been giving Gooden an opportunity to play for a spot next year (and based on those performances I’ll be surprised if she gets a gig in 2021).

I was surprised Gooden got a gig this year!
TBirds should promote Hodges. But they probably won’t. Otherwise they should try and get Nyah Allen back.
Oh god! Thunderbirds are losing some quality players this year, but I’m actually excited for Glasgow, she’s a future Diamond and needs court time ASAP but might not get that behind Potgieter and Horjus.
I am worried though because Horjus is not at a consistent level yet and we need someone strong there that can play GA and I don’t know if Gooden is the answer there. Especially losing Pittman who had built somewhat of a connection with Horjus, that goal circle dynamic needs a strong WA and a strong GA. God what are Thunderbirds management doing, we lost Proud, Turner, Klau, Allen, and Glasgow in terms of home grown talent in the last few years…
Thunderbirds have been really poor in retaining players for quite a few years now, they seem to hang on to people they don’t need and drop players who are great for the roster and give limited opportunities to those who really deserve to be on court.
For me Glasgow needs to work on her GA game, but not as a GA feeding a dominant shooter, more in a moving circle. A Pettitt or Harten-style GA. I would like to see more of Wood at WA next year for Lightning and I think it’s important they have better GA backup as I just don’t think that Proscovia/Koenen really works. Even though the Melbourne teams would be better choices I think Lightning could still be a good move for her.
I would like to see Garrett go somewhere where she has a reasonable chance of getting on at GK. I prefer her game there, she reads the play quite well and is great at defending the shot but is just a bit slow for GD in my opinion. Giants could be a good option, she offers more than Poolman or Manu’a for me but I doubt JFitz would sacrifice them. She’ll probably end up staying in Melbourne.
Wood is the best GA in Australia right now (with Bueta on mat leave). Wood – Koenen will be the starting Lightning circle. Glasgow is good enough to be a starting 7 SSN player not just a change up player. If she goes to Lightning she will be spending quite a bit of time on the bench. If Lightning want a WA change up then recruit Mi Mi or pitman.
Thwaites hasn’t played GA to Kumwenda as a feeding GA. I can’t imagine McMahon coaching any GA to be a feeder.
Anyway wherever Glasgow goes I wish her all the best because if she gets back to her 2019 form she would not just be knocking on the door of the Diamonds squad but the team.
Lot of players linked to Leeds rhinos in the Uk at the moment, Big question is if you were offered contract by Suncorp team or Uk club which would you choose? Know my answer
Dan Ryan is the coach there right? Probabsly has some connections here in Australia and is can offer court time to players. Personally I don’t think I would risk moving over to the UK if I were at a stage in my career like Glasgow is.
Moving to the UK will almost guarantee SSN bench players court time and if they go to Leeds Rhinos they’ll get a full time programme too.
On that note I think Stacey Francis will probably be back and playing there next year, I think fever will go for Aryang, Lewis and Bruce if they can? I’ve loved seeing the two youngsters on court, realistically they could then give Bruce half a game at GK and half at GD and really develop the two youngsters.Only talking about shooters:
Dwan and Glasgow to Vixens. Dwan is a perfect GA and Glasgow covers both. McInnis has the clout and success to draw whom ever she likes. Dwan won’t want to sit behind Bueta after such a strong season.
Stanton is a player that has to move. Maybe Thunderbirds. Otherwise she’ll go into obscurity.
Bassett to NZ.
Proscovia might be let go.
Midcourt:
Magpies are really an unknown quantity. So many stars, all pregnant or injured. Depends on the new coach.
None of the Vix will move. I feel that Charles could be poached by Lightning. She’s more versatile than Scherian.
Hadley also could go to Lightning.
Jovic could be seduced by almost anyone but I’d guess Giants or Firebirds.
Defence:
Giants need a change. This probably will come from overseas. I think a GD is more likely here (Guscoth), or else JFitz will actually run some youngsters.
Firebirds could do with a great GK. Don’t be surprised if Sterling moves. Also they might go for Dehaney.
Magpies have no defence issues. L
Another tip SA talent leaving Thunderbirds. I’m picking Vixens or Magpies.
Young Horjus played extremely well this year, but I expect she will be figured out in 2021.
Agree @tactixsupporter. That’s why I’m very worried about who the other GA will be, they need to be strong because Horjus is young and will be figured out, her height won’t stop her but it will be a problem when defenders start doing more homework on her. Even this seasons, amongst some explosive moments, she had games where she struggled
On another note, beofre the Roses camp just recently, Cobden was working at Netball SA until she could get back to the Thunderbirds but it looks like Van De Meree might be retained. I wonder if there will be any room for her in Adelaide. I think at her best, she offers more than Shadine but I don’t think there will be room to sign her unless they go for a heavy defensive mid court, which is probably undesirable considering their current situation
