I’ll reserve my judgement on this decision until I see what their plans are for replacing her.
I’m going to be really disappointed if they’ve done this and also haven’t retained Dwan. I can’t deal with yet another entirely new attack line after we finally started to build some connections.
I agree about reserving judgement – I was really hoping Mvula would go to the Tbirds, but she’s playing for Pulse in NZ.
Given the news, will be interesting to see how a 2023 SSN season will look.
Jenny Sinclair did a great job explaining the breaking news on Centre Circle just now.
Maybe thunderbirds will elevate Lucy Austin but surely they’d need some more experience in the ring?
What about if they’re going to try lure Wallam over if we’re assuming Aitken-George will be back…
Could be Wallam, though I can see firebirds retraining her because I’m sure George will retire after next season.
I feel bad for Potgieter, she wasn’t the problem, it was the mid court.
Elle or Maise will be next to go to slot in Austin… now who will be replacing Potgoeter?Although I suspect The Thunderbirds already know who they are targeting, I would love to see Austin promoted and perhaps Fawns (GA/GS) (one of her or Singlton will need to go if Wallace returns). I would retain Dawn. She had an outstanding season with the Firebirds when Bueta was out and still holds the netpoints record (no mean feat) and was strong in many of her games with the Firebirds- the potential is there. Hourjos (apologies if spelt wrong) would be WA and a possible GA slide. This would mean dropping MacDonald. Although this means a potentially another year not making finals if this team ‘stuck’ they could become potent.
Although I prefer not to have another international shooter Cardwell would have to be the target if they go that way.
The big issue this year is obviously the attack – transverse and shooting third. The shooter needs to be prepared to shoot (anyone who wears a GS bib needs to back themselves to do that)- although it was better this year the ball was lost too many times with the passes in and out of the circle). Fawns has shown she is prepared to do that (and I suspect would have done so more without Housby) and Austin just did it.
I am not meaning to dismiss Potgeiter but feel she needs to play with a ‘dominant shooting GA’ ie a Housby so the defenders are split.
I think Taylor is a great prospect – only her first year but the centre court actually looked the most stable when she was in that position. Nankivell is obviously a talent across all 3 centre court positions so hope she stays.
It’s a big call so early. Finals haven’t even been played.
I think Aiken George is under contract for next season as is Bueta. Wallam was only a replacement contract. Not sure on Stower (who I actually feel is developing very well and should be retained). So perhaps Wallam is their target?
It’s a shame Garbin signed for two years at Collingwood as she really would be the perfect fit.
I do hope Lucy Austin is in there somewhere.

I’m pretty certain firebirds will retain Wallam. George is close to retirement.
I sti think they won’t give a contract to McDonald, which will give Austin a spot and give the starting GS to an experienced player. The question is who?
I don’t know if its just me but I kinda knew Potgieter was going to be dropped. She’s the only starting GS in the SSN that doesn’t take the 2 point shot. She would suit the traditional game as seen in ANZP or VNSL. Who knows, might go back to Team Bath or join Shadine at Thunder.
I think the Tbirds need a shooter who can hold well, shoot from any distance and play GA…Cardwell is the only name that comes to mind. TBurds should throw all their money at her. She would be lethal with her hold and sinking all those 2 point shots.
I had a feeling too, the thunderbirds are very predictable at showing who they will drop. That’s why I wonder about Maisie?
Potgieter and Cardwell would’ve been a great combination.Let’s hope they can find someone good. I worry if they go for someone like Wallam, she’ll get dominated, second half of the season teams worked here out and she wasn’t as dominate. A strong moving shooter would be ideal who has winning experience.
Thunder need a shooter now Mvula has left.
Cardwell has been offered contracts before and is more than happy to stay in England.
